They are kidding themselves, the pros that went are on a level below the amateurs, im sure some of them could easily turn pro. That said, no very high profile boxer would risk going to olympics for fear of losing or more about seriously injuring a young amateur. Imagine a Kovalev, GGG, Klitchko or AJ fighting... that would be seriously dangerous for the guys.

What people don´t understand is that many of the boxers in the Olympics have beaten today´s top pros in amateur bouts before; Magomedrasul Medzhydov beat Anthony Joshua at the 2011 World Championships and Mihai Nistor stopped Joshua at the European Championships.

Lazaro Alvarez has beaten Oscar Valdez and Joseph Diaz, Robenilson Vieira beat Felix Verdejo, Albert Selimov won and lost to Lomachenko, Robson Conceicao beat Lomachenko (before they stole it from him) Oscar Valdez and Jesus Cuellar, Andrey Zamkovoy (who lost in his first bout here) beat Errol Spence, Clemente Russo beat Deontay Wilder, and so on.

Most of the top "amateurs" are more professional than most professionals as they are state sponsored top athletes that are well looked after in their countries.
