When I read the title I thought like everyone else, how is this like Leonard-Hearns? In the article he says, this is like Leonard-Hearns where it's 50-50 and someone has to rise to the occasion. Which changes the entire comment if he means it that way

He means he's the boxer, like Leonard, against the puncher, like Hearns. Of course Ward doesn't KO people like Leonard did, Kovalev is not as fast as Hearns but is definitely more powerful at 175 overall, maybe not the single perfect right with pace, Hearns will always have the best single punch in that regard, but overall, with both hands, including body punching, and shots where he can't get full speed on the punch, Kovalev is more powerful. I don't remember Hearns breaking bones with jabs the way Kovalev did.
So that's what Ward is saying. He is Leonard, Kovalev is Hearns.
The real problem though is that in fights like that, magic is most likely to happen in rounds 13-15, when boxers are tired, and have taken substantial damage. Boxing cut out the most dramatic rounds of fights, and now it is easier to spoil to an early lead, then sit on it and survive through 12. I'm not sure any fight can truly be Leonard-Hearns anymore with only 12 round fights. There can be more entertaining shorter fights but the back and the forth, the long marathon, the multiple storylines developing through a fight, the back and forth and back again... that mostly disappeared from boxing once they went to 12 rounds.Comment

This doesn't have anything to do with the article... Are we all not grown ups with jobs here? My broke a s s can spring 70 bucks every 3 months or so for a ppv fight. I've never understood the people who seem almost proud to be cheap and won't buy a ppv fight. We all know this isn't going to Castillo-Corrales but it's the 2nd most intriguing matchup in the sport. Spend the money, and buy the fight. This isn't some bull**** top rank ppv Chavez Jr. fight. People denigrating the intrigue of this fight to justify their cheapness. Ward by boring decision.Comment

Why don't you guys read the article before you post ?
Ward said it will be Leonard-Hearns, as-in..... a 50/50 fight.
And yesterday, when Ward mentioned Hopkins/Jones/Mayweather.....
..... he was simply responding to a leading question, "who does your style most closely resemble".
His reply was..... my style is Virgil Hunter, with a little Hopkins/Jones/Mayweather, because those are the guys I admired when I was growing up..... but for some reason the article forget to mention Hunter, instead preferring to insinuate that Ward was comparing himself to the famous trio.
I admit that the boxingscene article omitted the leading question, instead preferring to paint that quote as a "warning" to Kovalev..... but still, they are pretty weak reasons to criticize the guy.
Regarding Ward/Golovkin (which is actually a dead topic, that fight will never happen)..... the media really do seem to be painting one of those guys up to be this avoided ATG killer, whilst painting the other guy up as needing to prove himself..... despite the fact that the opposite is true.
Fkn..... bizarre..... ?Comment
