I won't hate on him. If Ward does the usual I'll be calling him a great boxer but boring. In case Kovalev wins and also doesn't out box Ward but just wears him down to a tko then I won't be saying he's a great boxer but probably will be saying he's a mean bastard.

I agree, Ward got this as long as he don't touch canvas in the fight.

The 2 things are not mutually exclusive. You can be a great boxer but boring. Or a lousy boxer and exciting.

And ... "great boxer" is an objective adjective to a far greater degree than "boring" which is mostly subjective.

So - not only do most Ward fans want him acclaimed as a great boxer but they also now want everyone to acclaim him as exciting. Hmmmm.

Think I'll wait for a few exciting performances before I acclaim him as a must see. Felt the same way about Mayweather. Different story with Hagler and Hearns and Benn.

No. Fair dues. It's not about style but results and maybe a little bit the eye test which is why fighters like GGG and Brook are in the top 10.

Personally, if Gonzalez claims a 4th divisional title I like his body of recent work far better than either Wards or Kovalev's body of work. Ward says Kovalev is over-looked. Disagree. He beat a good but not great BHop and a faded Pascal. Admittedly he looked good doing so.

I don't know how much you can read into last night's fight. What I took from it was:
            Brand is very durable.
I think Ward let the fight ride to get more rounds in.
Even so, Ward seems to lack power at 175 as he must have landed 20-25 flush power shots and Brand didn't flinch on most of them.
Brand was labelled a puncher but only at low level competition. His previous 3 fights were against a non-rated LHW. The number 126 LHW and the number 76 LHW. And then he like jumped up 5 levels to fight Ward.
The incoming from Grand was almost nothing. Ward shut him down. I'm expecting the incoming from Kovalev to be about 50% harder than what came in from Barrera, never mind Brand.

Is it just me or does Ward not look as formidable as he was 5-6 years ago? IMO he's not looked super impressive against Smith, Barrera or Brand. Very good but not elite. On a pound4pound level I was more impressed with Mikey's return last weekend - his opponent was far more slick and a much better boxer than Brand. Am I missing something?

Shut your bum ass up. You kept saying the Ward vs Kovalev fight wouldn't happen in 2016 pussie. Now that the fight has been announced for November 19th on HBO PPV you are singing a different tune.

Floyd will still be TBE irrespective of the result of this fight, so I don't see what point you're trying to make exactly.

He'll still be a Stevenson ducker though.

You're missing the fact that Ward, like Floyd, is the type of guy who only does just enough to win, irrespective of the level of the opponent.

It was the same with Mayweather Pacquiao. People said Pac would destroy Mayweather because of what he did to Cotto, Dela Hoya, Mosley, and Hatton compared to what Floyd did to em. However it don't work like that with these guys. These guys are technicians who only do just enough to disable the opponent and win rounds.
