These Olympics started well, but it went downhill as we approached the medal rounds. A lot of cards being filled up before the fights even start. Amateur boxing is worse than pro boxing in that regard. Uzbekistan and Azerbaijan are once again the worst offenders.

The worst was the Kazakstan boxer at 56 kilos Yerelenov beating the Uzbek fighter 3-0 only for the bout to be scored 3-0 against him.
I think AIBA has to be broken down in pieces and countries such as Uzbekistan, Azerbeijan, and Kazahstan held accountable.
How are countries such as Uzbekistan who didn't do anything at the Worlds, were terrible at the WSB this year all of a sudden become the best nation in boxing. In just 2 months this happened? No way, there are no such quick turn-around cycles in boxing.

In the year of 2016 right before the Olympics Uzbekistan didn't even make it to the semis of World Series Boxing and Kazahstan got dismantled by the British in the semifinal.
So excuse me if I see Uzbekistan with 3 medals at the Worlds and Kazahstan with 2 medals at the Worlds less than a year ago are on pace to have 6 medals in the Olympics. This is a very fast turn-around indeed.
Meanwhile Cuba and Russia, the number 1 and 2 countries in the Worlds 9 months ago are dragging behind. Is it because they don't give money to AIBA.
Russia has Tishenko and Dunaytsev, I am not sure if they have somebody else left.
Cuba I don't even know if Cruz, Arlen, Toledo and Robeisy will reach the bronze and these guys have beat Kazahstani, Uzbekistani and Azerbeidjani fighters left and right but these Olympics it's different.
AIBA is a big business now and the sport is not pure not that it has ever been but we see more and more sloppy fighters who employ wrestling get the decisions.Last edited by pesticid; 08-14-2016, 08:52 PM.
