Comments Thread For: Carl Frampton Teaches Lesson on Perils of Pre-Fight Planning

By Lyle Fitzsimmons - Well, Leo Santa Cruz, it was fun while it lasted. Being the fight nerd that I unashamedly am, I spent a sizeable chunk of my Saturday afternoon hours prior to the start of Showtime's three-bout main card from the Barclays Center in Brooklyn going ahead and making a list of what would come next for the 126-pound king after he beat Carl Frampton...

Frampton put on a show for sure.
Elite status. I think he'll face selby next in a unification bout to get the ibf.
The u.k. Money for those two names will be huge. After destroying selby then frampton can rematch santa cruz in vegas. Should be good cash in that event.
I just dont see any cash in frampton fighting russell jr or oscar valdez right now.

I think their paths will cross and it might make for an entertaining fight. You've got to admit Lyles overall 75% strike rate is very impressive, compare that to Dwyer.

Mikey murders Leo, it's not even interesting. He looked really filled out, doubt he's sticking around at 135 too long.

You're right that Mikey whoops him now but if Leo can go up a few more weight classes they might cross paths. As Long as Leo brings the pressure all his fights will be interesting.

He's already lacking power at 126, and shown can be hurt by guys coming up from 122. I'm looking at the Ring top 10 at 140 and Mikey knocks out most of those guys. Cruz volume style also not doing him favors vs sharpshooter like Mikey in p4p terms, nevermind giving up all that size and strength

I still think if Leo and Frampton fight another 9 times it would be a 50/50 fight. In the end Leo looked ready to go another 12 rounds while Frampton was starting to get real tired. Of the fight was in Vegas or Cali I'm sure Leo might of got the decision... I had it a draw but could see either guy winning by 7-5. Heck even 8-4 but 9-3 HELL NO!!! That judge has to of been Irish. And had an I love Frampton shirt on underneath his jacket.

                  great fight

IT was a frampton masterclass for 5 round until Leo santa cruz's EPO kicked in.
Frampton's natural stamina cant match EPO, meldonium or whatever it is that Leo is taking. I ahd it a draw or 7-5 Leo.. Great fight tho I enjoyed that ****
