Boxing turned into an industry that was completely subsidized by HBO and Showtime. Rather than show the fighters that sell tickets (which means the fans want to see said fighter) or buy the fights that fans wanted to see, HBO has spent the last decade completely off-course, trying to build stars that fit their agenda that was not based on hard numbers or reality.

Promoters barely promote fights anymore in America. They get the HBO check and book the fight at whatever casino will give them a nice site fee. They spent the decade taking no risks and doing nothing to grow the sport, and people actually wonder how it got to the point where Crawford-Postol is on PPV but Andre Ward's tuneup is on HBO.
