Loeffler wasn't sure Ward could make 168. So why did he mention 164?

They didn't want Ward. They pretty much said that they weren't interested at that time but kinda put out the 164 'offer' which wasn't actually an offer as a fig leaf. You can argue over their reasons - call it cowardice, risk-reward or simply preferring to pursue the WBC mandate but they didn't want the fight.

No fighter is going to move up to a higher division when there are bigger fights available in his own. Unless he has weight problems, of course.

If Golovkin and his team had known that Canelo was going to beat Cotto, then relinquish his title to avoid GGG, and that BJS and Jacobs were going to price themselves out of fighting him, they might have taken up Ward's offer. Nobody can see into the future though.

Kell Brook is a UK fighter, numbnuts. So are BJS, Eubank Jnr, DeGale, Groves, and Callum Smith.

That's roughly my take. Hindsight's a wonderful thing, but at the time of 164gate and the Ward offer they were mandated to fight the Cotto - Canelo winner and it's a no brainer - a much easier fight for far more money. I guess folk can call that cowardice if that's the way they roll, but given the way things stood at the time it makes sense to me.

Well done for knowing that. What's that got to do with Golovkin being a bigger draw than Ward?

Exactly. They didn't ask for a catchweight after getting the offer from Ward, btw. Loeffler just rejected it and told Ward GGG would be focused on 160 till 2017. The plan was to fight the winner of Canelo/Cotto this spring or summer, then BJS later in the year.

Read the first tweet. Nes said Ward is a sure thing and he can't count on the winner of Cotto or Canelo. Most people with common sense at the time knew the winner wasn't going to fight GGG. And we were right. Why couldn't K2 and Loeffler see that?

"Nes said" Lol. Who the fuck is Nes?

My belief is that Ward can't make 168. If he could, he'd be fighting there, not at 175.

Cotto was never going to fight GGG, but most people thought that Canelo would fight him if he beat Cotto. That's why everybody was so shocked when he handed his belt over without a fight. Remember that?

Somebody who was correct when he said Cotto or Canelo would duck GGG.

His trainer doesn't believe that. He believes Ward is figting 175 because he had to make a fight with GGG or Kovalev to get an HBO contract. Kovalev accepted the challenge. I'll go with the word of his trainer over your beliefs.

The only people who believed that were people who completely ignored Canelo's statements regarding GGG.
