  • There is no signed contract between Kovalev and Ward for a supposed fight. There's only a "penned" contract -- Duva said.
... Those who don't understand the difference between "signed" and "penned"...

    (I don't answer to alts.)

Notice Ward wanting to dictate terms in his email offer as well. My weight, my timetable. No compromise.

I certainly hope you're not arguing that 50-50 split and 50-50 weight is 'flexing A side muscle'. Notice the vast difference between "on a 50-50 basis", and "my natural weight class" and "90-10" split. That, my friend, is flexing A side muscle. Tom was making a reasonable offer that no one can argue against without bringing up 3rd parties or statements made years before
That's laughable!!! Golovkin and Loeffler have never been and still aren't in any position to dictate catch-weight terms to Andre Ward.

Furthermore, you are no position to tell anyone what and why Loeffler used A-side terms. The reality is that he used those terms because he believed/believes that he could in regards to Ward. Yes I'm suggesting that any boxer trying to dictate weight to the defending champion is flexing A-side muscle. Please see Pacquiao vs Cotto, Mayweather vs Canelo, Cotto vs Martinez and De La Hoya vs Hopkins.

Reasonable offer??!!! That's delusional. In order to flex A-side muscle, you actually have to have A-side muscle.

Now we flash forward to 3 years to April 2015....

When asked about still facing Chavez Jr, after JCC Jr lost to Fonfara at 171 pounds, Golovkin responded, “I hope so. I’m ready for anybody.”

        Once again, "anybody".

No one is saying that Golovkin should have accepted any terms from anyone from 154-168.

Agreed, Golovkin should not have step in the ring with Ward. The risk is/was far greater than the reward. That being said, a boxer should not constantly declare "Anyone" if they really mean "Anyone except..."

If Ward presented an offer in 2015 for a Golovkin fight in 2016, that is not 2 years down the road. More importantly, no boxing fan believes it would take Ward more tune-ups to get ready for Kovalev than to get ready for Golovkin. C'mon now.
Saying he will fight anyone 154-168 doesn't mean that he will fight them at any weight. For example, Do you think GGG would've went down to 154 to fight, say, Trout? No. But he would fight him at 160. Also, I find it funny how some people say Golovkin should go down to 155 to fight Canelo, but didn't think Ward should've went to 164 to fight GGG. Especially considering that Ward is alot bigger than GGG, while Canelo is the same size if not bigger than GGG.

          Hmmmm.....

ESPN's Dan Rafael has revealed on Twitter that Russian Kovalev’s promoter Kathy Duva confirmed to him that a contract has definitely been signed:

Notice the word "signed" not "penned". Also checked out Rafael's April 23rd tweet.

Pretty sure he said he would like to not that he would and he didn't say he'd fight at HW then or now. Completely different. Weak........

He's said in interviews he would go up and down and 154 is "easy".

Golovkins team said Golovkin would fight Canelo at a catchweight and then decided to change their minds.

No but do you realize that when Golovkin said 154-168 in March of 2012, Ward was the Unified, RING and Lineal 168 Champion. Also, when Ward sent K2 the offer in June/July 2015, after the GGG/Lemieux fight was announced, Ward was still the 168 pound champion. Ward did not vacate his 168 pound title until November 2015. If you say anyone from at 168, fans will expect that to mean the best at 168 too. It's understandable why K2 turned down the Ward offer but offering Ward a 164 catch-weight is disingenuous. In my opinion.

I prefer him fighting Brook over fighting, say, Wade. Even if Wade was a middle weight. Truth is next fight he's gonna probably get in the ring and dominate probably Eubank Jr or Jacob's, and all the **** he's getting for fighting Brook is gonna be pointless. That's the way i look at it atleast. Who do you think Golovkin should've fought in September 10th with only a month and a half to negotiate and promote ?

Im not in a position to tell you how Tom is using the'A side' term, but Tom does himself. Context clues. He says in the same sentence exactly why he is using the term. "...any boxer trying to dictate weight to the defending champion is flexing A side muscle..." So, by demanding 168 to the 'defending champion' Golovkin Ward is flexing his A side muscle? What A side muscle did Ward have at that point? A half empty arena in his hometown? 350k on BET with a Jay Z concert thrown in? 2 fights in 3 years at that point? All that A side muscle...

The Oracle in Oakland holds just over 19,000. Do you think Mr Oakland A side can get 10k in the seats?
