  • Comments Thread For: NYSAC Under Fire After State Investigation Into Magomed Claims

An investigation launched by New York's inspector general after a pro fighter suffered nearly fatal injuries concluded the state boxing commission was plagued by deficient practices, limited oversight and conflicts of interest. Inspector General Catherine Leahy Scott said her office's probe into the New York State Athletic Commission was prompted by the severe brain injuries and poor post-fight treatment suffered by heavyweight Magomed Abdusalamov in 2013 at Madison Square Garden.

I'd like to say something poetic about reform and justice being the silver lining to this tragedy but, as the man said in the film, "Forget it Jake, it's Chinatown... "

Melvina Lathan should be arrested for her gross incompetence that night! Never was a fan of hers and I hope she's investigated as well.

Terrible. This man is ruined for life. His young wife and two little girls are crushed along with him. It won't come close to making up for the damage done, but I hope Mago's family gets a massive settlement after all is said and done.

Things like this, make me embarrassed to be a boxing fan.

Corruption and dirty deeds rot this sport from the bottom to the top.

Most of what the investigation complains about is common among athletic commissions in the U.S.

The real problem is athletic commission jobs are straight up about who you know, and has nothing to do with what you know. It's like a vacation job, no one is taking it serious, until something like this happens.

This is that one fight every one should remember when they sit up here moaning and b*tch*ng about stoppages they don't agree with. You may not like it but this but its necessary to to evolve how post fight treatment is handled, especially in NYC. It's bad enough these guys take on massive amounts of punishment during a bout, there should be mandatory full on examination post fight for both fighters...the afterparty and all that shhh can wait til its done.
