Fights very cerebral and prefers the win to the knockout. Everybody knows Wards game, make it boring if you need to but get the W, so there is no pressure on him to press the action. Kovalev is the heavy K.O. puncher that's knocking everyone out and the tslk has been that Kovalevs power and pressure will be tpmoo much and will break Ward. So all the pressure will be on Kovalev to push and be the aggressor looking for the stoppage victory. This all plays into Wards hands I believe.
Sure , it played into Hopkins hands just the same. And Chilemba's hands. I'm sure Kovalev is aware that a win is a win too. Defense will be a main component though - doh. Tell us all something we don't know.
The issue is will Kovalev be neutralized like Postal? Will Ward be as slick and accurate as Crawford [ or Andrade for that matter]? I got a feeling that 2016 Ward is not as slick as Crawford and that Kovalev is not as scared to let go as Postal. But time will tell.

I have a feeling that 2016 Ward is not as slick as Isaac Chilemba and that Kovalev will have an easier time with Andre than he had with Chilemba.

Krusher showed against BHop that he can box patiently behind the jab when he wants to. The only mistake he made with Chilemba was to waste energy and leave himself open going for a KO in front of his home fans. Chilemba gave him a nice timely reminder that power and aggression are not the answer to every problem in the ring.

I keep hearing Hopkins' name like he compares to Ward, Hopkins was in a damn war with Karo Murat eating a ton of leather, Barrera looked MUCH better. Hell, he wasn't even a real LHW, 173 on the day of the weigh in, 50 years old too lol.

          Agreed.

I have not followed Andre Ward much, but watching his outing against Barrera... I was not impressed... AT ALL.

His current fight against a nobody that was knocked down by a guy off the street? lol.

I think this will be on the Level of Kovalev vs Pascal 2.

Chilemba is likely his most difficult fight... emotionally.

He is fighting back in his home country, and being back for the first time for a fight, there was PLENTY of PR work that needed to be done. Then you have the pressure of fighting at home and fighting in the arena where the last fight, the last guy ended up dying after your fight.

How is that not a mind ****?

Vs Ward... Kovalev is in his favorite place... no distractions, don't give a **** zone.

The only thing Kovalev will be focusing on is knocking out Andre Ward.

Ward on the other hand... will have the same if not higher pressure than Kovalev faced with Chilemba.

Unfortunately Ward's tune up fights are not doing him any justice in training.

He goes from fighting a mediocre fighter to someone fit for Wilder.

Then... he is supposed to go fight the best light heavy weight?

Ward is going to down, and if he's dumb enough to get up he will take a beating for his efforts. Looking forward to this one.

The only problem I had with the article was the writer implying that most boxing fans think Andre Ward is going to win. I don't think that. In fact, from what I've seen on here & other boxing web sites, it's basically 50/50 split down the middle. If we're talking odds, Kovalev is a slight favorite. Still, it's a 50/50 fight. Only the results in the ring count.

This is going to be a tough fight for Ward, if he wins, it won't be one sided. It will be war.

Agreed, Ward's speed is out of his world.

                      Kova won't find the target.
