The job of Spence's team is to get him prepared for the long haul. That means getting him in there with as many different looks against quality opponents as they can before throwing him to the wolves. And yes, Bundu is a quality opponent for Spence at this stage of his career.
Just realized Spence is fighting a 41 year 1:100 underdog, Rod Salka next?

Im not talking about GGG, and yes i think he was moved too slowly in his career. What i just dont understand is this mindset on this set about how slowly fighters need to be moved, imperative they gain experience by beating up bums. Just throw him in at the deep end and see what happens, thats what happened with ward in the super six and he did alright with it. Loma got thrown in deep end, he lost gained vital experience and now is looking amazing. Rigo won after a few fights. Know loma and rigo are extreme examples but why cant fighters of the talent level of spence get accelerated quickly? Why would it really matter if he stepped it up now and went after a top 10 fighter, if he lost is it the end of the world, no. Losing and then regrouping would be better experience than blasting out 42 year olds.Comment

think the reaction for complaining about spence fighting a 42 year old proves my point about how crazy it is seen these days to expect fighters to fight people of a similar level, thought whole point of watching sport was for its competitiveness.Comment

So Spence is talking big, wanting to face Canelo etc and some illusional fans already claim Spence is the top WW out there, even though he faced no one so far. Haymon has a huge stable of fighters at 147.
I thought they want to build him up and match him up with a Top 10, at least Top 20 opponent.
Now Spence is facing that small Italian who turns 42 in a couple months, who doesn't even have a punchers chance (30% KO Ratio). Spence is like 3 inches taller, 4 inches longer reach as well.
What does that fight do for Spence? Does Haymon have no better fighters that Brook could face? Is anyone giving Bundu the slightest chance? Casinos list Spence as a 100:1 favorite.. damn, who is he fighting next, Salka?
While we're at it, let us pretend that all the guys ranked above Bundu (8th) in the IBF didn't blatantly reject the opportunity to fight for the mandatory position (ie...blatantly duck Spence).
Let us also pretend that he didn't run through and stop Chris Algieri, you know, the same guy who went twelve with Pacquao, beat Provodnikov, oh....and gave hell to Canelo's recent opponent (Khan).
Lets just pretend none of this is real, that Spence cherry picked Bundu and is afraid of all the guys he called out (Canelo, Thurman, and Brook), because it makes us haters feel better.Comment

what are you basing his 'qualities' off? getting a SD V D- level frankie gavin ?
being battered and not winning a round agaisnt thurman?
beating some Italian pizza chef's?
im curious..Comment

You're either ****** or you are very good at pretending to be, either way it aint a good look.
Obviously no one care about Spence-Bundu, not even Spence himself. However, he has to fight this eliminator so that top guys like Brook have no way of ducking him.
It's called common sense, though I guess common sense is not common to all of us (ie....you).Comment

just like Brook 'has to' fight his mando kevin bumzier
just like GGG 'has to' face wade.
All these fights can/could be easily sidestepped, beating bundu to face brook...in what, over a year?
the point here is, brook, GGG etc get heavily criticized yet spence gets a pass because he ' has to '
BS.Comment
