This article quoted no sources, nor did it admit to a writer (worrying about libel perhaps?).

For those interested in a bit of the backstory, the main (& as far as i can tell - only...) source for all of this is a corrupt Russian official called Grigory Rodchenkov.
No corroboration from any other source needed apparently, & no evidence has been produced at all - everything in the report is hearsay from unnamed sources or from Grigory...

From a knowledgable commentator who has been following the story on Grigory:

"All his scheming, insatiable greed and generally shady activities over the past 5-6 years started making things difficult for him. He was involved in a Russian doping investigation already back in 2011, but he managed to sneak his way out of it by sacrificing his own wife (she was sentenced by a Moscow court for having traded illegal substances). Later on, he got renewed attention from the FSB for an extortion plot against Russian athletes and more doping-related shadiness, but managed to slip through yet again. WADA has apparently kept their eyes on him since then too but for some reason they let him be and evidently tried making him feel safe so that he would continue the way he had been. They chose not to act at all until 2015, and that was the final straw as far as the Russians were concerned as well, and they kicked him out for good.

He is a brilliant chemist, and now apparently works at an U.S. laboratory, while feeding WADA with conspiracy theories. Saved his ass, simply put, if you pardon my French."

Seems to be no such thing as irony left there these days - just power & positioning...

Some more details from ucgsblog :

McLaren Report is out, and on page 4, fails to pass the test they claimed they passed: http://www.gannett-cdn.com/usatoday/...a-olympics.pdf

“The highly compressed timeline has meant that the IP investigative team has had to be selective in examining the large amount of data and information available to it. This Report reflects the work of the IP but it must be recognised that we have only skimmed the surface of the extensive data available. In doing so, the IP has only made Findings in this Report that meet the standard of beyond a reasonable doubt.”

Wait, what? Beyond a reasonable doubt means that you have to examine all of the relevant evidence. That paragraph, right there, admits that it’s not beyond a reasonable doubt. They’re lying in their own report.

“WADA must decide if the IP investigative team should continue its work in respect of reviewing all of its material in relation to specific athletes and examining the remaining material it has.”

Of course all power is with WADA. That’s just how independent the report is. It’s totally reliant on WADA, a sign of independence.

“The IP has gathered and reviewed as much evidence as could be accessed in the limited 57 day time frame in which this Report was required to be completed.”

Beyond a reasonable doubt means just that. It doesn’t mean “let’s all do a rush job and try to pander our propaganda around it” and the sheer amount of times that the report claims to be independent is… astonishing. It’s like a kid going “I totally didn’t go into the cookie jar, nope, didn’t, nope, didn’t!”

“The State had the ability to transform a positive analytical result into a negative one by ordering that the analytical process of the Moscow Laboratory be altered.”

Oh, the state had the ability. Wait, what? Since when does that claim meet the “beyond a reasonable doubt” standard? Do they think that anyone who reads that garbage, is too ****** to notice?

Witness list: Rodchenkov and some “confidential informants” who couldn’t be named and could simply be made up.

“I did not seek to meet with government officials and did not think it necessary having already done so with the IC with little benefit to that investigation.”

Beyond a reasonable doubt = only pandering to one side of the story. Russian lawyers – please discredit that garbage.

and you can't just accuse countries of doping and ban them. russia was investigated, and a link between the state and doping has been thoroughly uncovered. do i think american athletes are all clean? of course not. they've popped int eh past, and will contunue to pop. but to say that they dope like russians, or that the american state sponsors and facilitates their doping, requires an investigation and proof. which you know you don't have.
Well, where are the proof that all russian athletes are cheating?

                That's all politics and BS.
