Don't try and shut down the debate by bringing race into it.
I'm a Wilder fan. I live in Nashville, so Birmingham is a short ride for me. So I attend his fights. I refused to go to his last fight because I was frustrated with the level of competition. But the whole Provetkin thing wasn't his fault. He went to Russia to fight him. And the guy turned up a positive PED test. I really don't know what people expected from Wilder on this one?

As for Arreola, he was a solid fill in opponent under the circumstances. Who did you want him to fight on short notice? The other beltholders were occupied. I guess he could have called out Ortiz. But I don't think anybody is gonna fight that guy unless they have to. Arreola wasn't the best opponent. But he was solid.

Let's see how the rest of the year plays out. Hopefully Fury-Wlad gets done. I believe Joshua has to fight a mandatory in Parker. Now we just have to see how thia whole Provetkin thing plays out for Wilder. If the guy is cleared, hopefully we get that fight. If not, maybe Wilder will take a chance against a guy like Ortiz or Haye. But he seems to be prioritizing belts. So the powers-that-be may not want those fights for him, potentially screwing up unification fights next year.

      • Beating a slow shuffling fat Mex isn't much of a feat even by KO

Okay Wilder KO'd the fat slow beatdown slow Arreola with ease. Big fricking deal. That huge mattress sized nose on Arreola is a target no one can miss. Wilder still needs tested by a top fighter to find out if Wilder is any good. Hard to argue with the KO ratio though. But Arreola was shot and had nothing in that flabby body by tattoos. You could smuggle 25 mexicans across the border in Arreola's nose.

        • You really can't blame Wilder for this fight. After all he was getting ready to fight the fourth best HW in his opponents home country- Moscow, Russia. Look at who both Klitschko's fought for the first year after winning their first title. Look who GGG fought for the first THREE YEARS after winning his first title. Russia probably won't even be allowed in the upcoming Olympics because of their rampant cheating and Wilder was going to fight Povetkin in Moscow. Wilder did what he was supposed to do- embarrass his opponent on prime time network tv. Maybe he got too much press too early, maybe because he's American, maybe because he's black, whatever the reason Wilder is criticized for what every other title holder does, but only Wilder catches so much flak. Wilder fighting the Fury-Wlad rematch winner is the only HW fight that matters and that people want to see. Wilder hasn't proven he is some unstoppable beast or the next great HW but he has done what he was supposed to every time out. But honestly, I don't see Fury willing to risk a fight with Wilder if he beats Wlad again. Fury will rake in $$$ fighting easier fights. Which would only leave Joshua for Wilder. That should come after Wilder-Wlad/Fury though. Wilder is doing what Tyson did. But people still claim a young Tyson ko'ing every bum of the month was an ATG HW, but Wilder is some hype job. In reality, he might be, but Tyson definitely was. Whatever the reason, Haters gonna hate! As long as he keeps winning none of the Haterade is gonna matter though.

[sarcasm]Great comment![/sarcasm] So do you mean that every boxer that ever won a fight had a perfect performance in every single win and there is nothing to critique about his performance as long as he's winning, no matter how he looked in his fights? See, unlike you I'm not a fanboy and I know what I'm talking about and what I saw in the fight. I don't know why I'm even losing my time arguing with you couch potatos. I saw the good things Wilder did the last night, and it's visible to me that he's constantly improving, but I was not blind like you not to see the bad things he does and needs to improve.

Edit: I had Spizilka one round ahead of Wilder before the KO, Spizilka gave him hell like it or not. I loved the Ko, it was a great counter-punch from Wilder.

            • You can blame Povetkin for the cancellation of his fight against Wilder.

But to blame him for Wilder choosing Arreola?????

Might as well blame Povetkin for fighting the likes of Dehaupas, Molina, Szpilka, Malik Scott.

Seems like he will only good to decent fighters if it is mandatory (Stiverne, Povetkin). Otherwise, he'll be fighting bums.

              • I'm becoming a big fan of Wilder. Obviously Arreola was a punching bag, but Wilder showed me sharp uppercuts, good movement, and of course his ace in the hole which is his power. Wilder is the best heavyweight in the game right now.
