It might be a huge step up, but Davis seems like the type of fighter who will not learn from fighting these journeymen types. He's too good for them, and his explosive power means he gets them hurt early, after that its just exhibition for the most part.

I really like him tbh, whether he wins or loses i will still follow his career. He is young enough that a loss shouldnt affect him too much. Pedraza is quality too, and its a fun clash of styles.

    All for it.

Exactly. I even had no problem with Douglas/Khurtdsidze because an elite fighter should have swam against that caliber if opponent . No offense to Khurtdsidze because is a tough SOB.

Cherry gave Pedraza all he could handle. If Tank is as good as they say he is (I'm not sold personally ) he should be beating these types of fighters .

Be interesting to see how Davis looks when he isnt having everything his own way. Broner looked/looks shellshocked when opponents arent standing there waiting for him to pull of his flashy moves.

Davis is prone to the same type of showboating vs lower level opp. He needs to cut it out for the top dogs. Even RJJ knew when to knuckle down, concentrate and fight smart (though he obviously couldnt resist a bit of flash here and there)

And this is why you don't really wanna sign with Mayweather Promotions if you are a young cat. They are rushing guys too much expecting or hoping to make/find the next Floyd. And when you do that you're gonna find a whole lot of not-Floyd's real quick.

Its sorta a double edged sword. For the young guys it sucks cuz you don't get that proper upward trajectory that usually takes awhile (some of these recent high level amateurs who are title contenders in 10 or less fights notwithstanding & that Arum does really well). For the older or more polished guys its great cuz Floyd can get you title fights you don't deserve which puts you in move making spots + getting better paydays.

Hope this fight doesn't happen cuz I don't feel like Davis has been groomed for a fight like this so soon. Hell even Floyd fought a older guy who was on the back end of his career for his first notable fight. This is a prime guy in Pedraza vs a pre-prime guy in Davis.

I agree, and maybe Douglas just isn't cut out to be in the elite category. Fighters like Khurts are a test of fortitude, and Douglas just wasn't rugged enough to handle him. Douglas was swimming against the current the entire fight and he just got completely overwhelmed. Being bigger/longer is not always enough, especially if your opponent is SO much shorter that it becomes a disadvantage.

Damn gervonta sucks. Doesn't really stand out in his fights. Awful defense. I expect Sniper to put a clinic on him

Sheesh. Well if Davis thinks he ready then go ahead but Floyd needs to not rush them so much

I think Davis would be in a good spot with Pedraza, he is much bigger and a real physical lightweight, Pedraza is kind of tall for those classes but is not a big physical guy. Pedraza is a good boxer offensively, but watching that Cherry fight he can be had by a guy like Davis because Pedraza didn't have big power at 130 and to keep a guy like Davis off some kind of power is almost a must.

Should be a fun fight though because Pedraza will tag the **** out of Davis early and if he can last he will have a good shot at winning, but I think Davis grinding him down is more likely.

Not a fight I would make for either guy to be honest at this moment in time though because 135 is a weak class so why have two young guys scrap immediately when they could fight some riff-raff from 135 pick up a strap each and meet with something on the line (likely top guy at 135 status, tallest midget in the world contest but it is still something). If one falls short bring in Easter

I like it. I'm tired of fighters not stepping up until their mid to late 30s. The sport needs young, baby superstars to thrive. Too many old heads.
Breaking it down like this it sounds much sexier. Plus as a fan of how the UFC works you see prospects with 2 or 3 losses ALL the time who become elite level talented fighters later on & that'd be a nice change in boxing all around. And it'd make the guys who do stay undefeated deep into their careers all the more noteworthy

I guess it just seems against the consensus of how you move a young guy in boxing to me. And I think Davis has missed a couple steps between the last few guys he's fought & Pedraza & thats what is really gonna decide this fight & why its a bad move. Then again while his marketability will be affected with a L (assuming he does lose) it could make him an even better fighter long term that makes him long term more profitable in the business so who f#cking knows might be the best move.

He hasnt fought anyone obviously, but i think his defence looks decent enough. He slips and rolls well and has good eyes and reflexes.
