He became a diva because his failure to exercise control over his career basically cost him his prime. It's not like this diva business came out of nowhere. He got schooled a couple of times, took serious beatings, and decided he wasn't going to lose a fight at the negotiation stage (Pac) or in the dressing room (Margarito) again. Sure: he's a diva...but it's his flesh, blood and bone sacrifice that put him in the position to be one.
Maybe it's time for him to retire, but he doesn't really deserve all the contempt thrown his way.
