Can Brian Castano be the new Maravilla at 154/160?

^^ Here's his fight from last night

I've had my eye on this guy for a while and I'm convinced he's the next big thing. He was a standout amateur and beat guys like Spence and Derevyanchenko, he's transitioned very well into the pros now. He's a very well-rounded fighter, with explosive hand speed, fast feet, a sharp jab and he's comfortable at all ranges.

He's definitely one of my favourite prospects atm, his best weight is 154, which is one of the best divisions in boxing, there are some big fights to be made for him.

Keep an eye on this boy, he's special fighter.

Wow, thanks for posting. Upshaw has always been a solid journeyman (though I fear he might be nearing his expiration date), but Castano really broke him down, those chopping overhand rights were a little reminiscent of Martinez/Williams.

Personally I think he's too short for MW, what is he 5'5? I remember Dereveyanchenko towering over him and he's a short MW at 5'9. I also though Derevyanchenko could've won their 5 round fight. He forced Castano on the backfoot the whole fight and it didn't look like Castano's flurries were all that effective. Eitherway, Castano would be a stronger force at JMW. I'd love to see him in a year vs someone like J-Rock. Also Castano/Canelo would be great right now (they're the same age).

** I just seen on Boxrec, this fight with UpShaw was at 154lbs, so good that they're moving him to JMW.

Yeah Canelo vs Castano is definitely a future super fight

I'm not too sure, I can't find anything definitive. Maybe around 5'6/5'7.

He's very explosive and athletic, throws from all angles, he has a similar ambush style and of course he's Argentinian.

I was thinking Gamboa but the style is similar.

martinez was special, its a shame his prime was so short.

this dude shows flashes of being a complete fighter,

but i don't know about becoming a maravilla who fought with his hands down and barely got hit.

                    He's 5'7''

In 2014 he tried to make 147 and he had heart issues and got scared. He had an arritmia. He was studied by doctors and he was told that he could make 154 but not 147.

He's really good but in these days if you can't sell you don't get the best fights so... he will probably be avoided.
