Comments Thread For: Kovalev Admits He Didn't Pace Himself, Was Punched Out

He didn't really begin to relax until the latter part of the fight after he had a couple good mid rounds. Chilemba made it difficult so kudos to him and it evidently wasn't a very good night for the Krusher. I will have to rewatch the fight but I had it a closer win for Sergey than the scorecards suggested.
As someone else pointed out, I truly believe his homecoming might have played a factor and the fact that they fought at the same arena where the Simakov fight took place. Kovalev said of course before the fight it would make no difference but it might have subconsciously anyway and couple it with his claim of being illish during camp, etc. - anyway, not his best night but he pulled through and I can't wait for Ward either.Comment

Yeah, i read the article in Yahoo about the Simakov's death. I definitely got the impression that Kovalev prefers to fight away in America, just because he has no distractions. I would say that he prefers to be the away fighter the way he fought BHop in AC and Pascal in Canada. There is no way fighting in the same arena didn't bring back some kind of memories, subconscious or not. I still need to watch the fight, but it sounds like he wasn't 100%.Comment

Why is it that in this forum instead of having smart conversations we have a lot of people calling everyone something bad?
For real, the apes forum is a bit smarter than this place sometimes.Comment

Kovalev is good fighter but slow of foot and loses to Ward-watch
Kovalev is a good slow fighter with power who will get schooled by the Great Andre Ward who is a superior boxer with better hand speed and footwork. All that great clubbing and caveman style of boxing by the robotic slower Kovie will not matter. Watd picks the commie apart as all the miserable atheist Russians everywhere ponder what just happened. Look for a 118-110 wARD decision victory. God Bless AmericaComment

If Kovalev lands even a quarter of as many punches on Ward that he did Chilemba, how do you think Ward handles them? Pascal & Hopkins are sturdy guys, both were taken out of their comfort zones with Kovalev's offense. If Ward had Chilemba's durability to absorb Kovalev's punches, I'd be worried for Kovalev.Comment
