I've been watching boxing for over 30 years. Golovkin isn't the first fighter everyone is "ducking" and he won't be the last. If he truly he wants to enhance his legacy, he'll have to sacrifice some. You can't bring B-side star power and an average resume to the table and then act like you call shots. Simple.

Honest question here, did the ibf really said fight your mando next or we strip you??? I dont remember seeing that anywhere, but i might be wrong, it just seems to weird that ggg recently won the belt to lepu and the ibf was already demanding an inmediate mandatory fight to a guy that actually generates good sanctioning fees... and i find it even harder to believe that knowing canelo was on gggs future the ibf will do anything and stay out of that fight.. didnt they told lepu something like "dont worry about mandos, you can fight ggg"..

Ask Tyson Fury, Vernon Forrest, or Jermain Taylor if the IBF will strip you if you don't fight their mando - they were all stripped shortly after winning it. They give you 6 months to make an initial defense.

The IBF eventually ordered the Tureano Johnson fight, but when he got injured and withdrew, they took #3 contender Wade.

If Gennady Golovkin (34-0, 31KOs), who holds the IBF middleweight title, is unable to consummate a deal with WBO belt-holder Billy Joe Saunders, the IBF is prepared to call on him to fulfill his mandatory obligation versus Tureano Johnson (19-1, 13KOs) as soon as possible.

Lindsey Tucker, the Championship Chairman of the IBF, explained to BoxingScene.com: "We kinda gave 'Triple G' a break. Initially the WBC said the winner of (Miguel) Cotto-(Saul) Alvarez was going to fight 'Triple G' and then that fell out. And then they tried to make Andy Lee (who at the time held the WBO belt before losing to Saunders on December 19th). I think they got him to agree to a unification, the problem is Andy Lee lost the fight."

Tucker says it was his assumption that Lee had agreed to a deal to face Golovkin next based on reports he had read. Tom Loeffler, the managing director of K2 says a binding agreement with Lee was not consummated to unify their titles.

''Now a unification takes priority over the mandatory. We were trying to allow (Golovkin) to do the unification but now we're probably going to ask him to come and do the mandatory because that's next," says Tucker, who is obviously skeptical that a deal can be struck by K2 and Frank Warren.
"I don't see any of the other champions that look like they're interested in fighting (Golovkin), right now. I could be wrong but I don't see any."

According to Tucker, the president of the IBF, Daryl Peoples will soon get in contact with K2 Promotions and set a date to begin negotiations for a Golovkin-Johnson fight. Johnson, earned the number one spot in the organization by out-pointing Eamonn O'Kane over 12 rounds at the Madison Square Garden on October 17th, which was on the same card as Golovkin's eighth round knockout of David Lemieux.

do you know how often does ggg has to do those crappy ibf defenses, now that he did the initial defense? if its every 6 months then is going to suck...

IBF is every 9 months and WBC and WBO are about the same. WBA is whenever.

The point of getting all the titles is so that you take the top fighters who would normally be the other champs, and now make them into mandatories - like Jacobs. This gets rid of guys like Wade from floating to the top of a org.

The next IBF mando looks like it'll be Derevyanchenko if he beats Soliman & Johnson, that's a quality fight. The WBC is working with the IBF & WBA to put together a tournament for a mandatory to fight Golovkin.

Look at Keith Thurman's next mando - the guy who just beat Mosely... Now if WW had a unified champ, the mando's would be awesome.

having a unified mando will be good, better than fighting the wades of the world every 9 months... MW is wack and on top of that you have to face 3 weak mandos every year, that deffinetly wouldnt help gggs resume ...

Well I've been watching boxing before that and took up the sport at the age of five with my first set of boxing gloves so that puts you to rights...golovkin ain't calling no shot and he's not demanding anything and before you fire back he's only asked for a title shot that he was a mandatory for over 2 years and he isn't asking for a middleweight to cut down to 155lb for a shot....golovkin will take on and beat any middleweight in the division and it's the other boxers who are acting the prima donnas about facing him.....now there is sacrificing and there's trying to make a fighter weight drained and dehydrated before a fight......that's not sacrificing that's stacking the cards in your favour....canelo had no intention of facing golovkin and played all of us like fools and golovkin fell for it....I will agree that to define your legacy you need to take chances but let's be fair how many boxers actually want to fight golovkin.....that's the real issue not golovkin picking easy fights

Actually, that's not the issue. If he wants a big fight then he'll have to make a sacrifice ie. moving up and down in weight. He won't do that and is content to take nondescript opposition. Boo-hoo.
