I remember in the '90s watching him fight one ordinary fighter after another. I think I tuned out after a while during that period since it just wasn't fun to watch him anymore. I mean, the whole playing basketball the day of the fight and wearing the microphone in the ring and such novelties had me thinking, 'Damn. They are really reaching here.' Ridiculous.
    Agreed.

And you're right, you would think that HBO, Show and everyone else would have learned the lesson: don't over pay your commodities. The issue is, most people involved in boxing, from TV execs to promoters and managers, have more money than sense.

edit: Just wanted to say it's the same issue in most other sports I know of as well. For example, in football, Arsenal just paid something like 30 million pounds to a one season (so far) wonder who has done very little to show us that he is worthy of such BIG money.

It's the ridiculous economy of a ridiculous group of people who have too much wealth and too few brains.

Oh wow. Okay. I thought it was only boxing, really. I watch other sports sometimes but I don't ever really follow them. 30 million like it's nothing. That's insane. That money could definitely be put to better use. There's a ton of waste in general really.

Difference being that there's billions of $$$ and £££ in soccer worldwide. Boxing is a much lower ranked sport.
Hell, golf, snooker and darts get much higher viewer ratings. Viewers determine advertising money. Two or three million viewers every few months is not going to get anyone multi million $$$.

The numbers are off. It is quite odd.

Snooker and arts? Dang. Haha. How far the sport has fallen. I like to play darts but I've never watched it on TV. I can't get into golf on TV either. I don't know. I'd rather watch two guys hit each other any time. Strange times we live in...

Agreed. But look at the prize money in those sports. Or formula 1 racing.
Christ knows how anyone stays awake.

Boxing needs to sharpen up quickly cause which celebrities are going to be rushing to the next big Wilder fight? Or Canelo?

With the celebrities gone the big event nature will be gone. Once the big event aspect is gone the writing will be on the wall. Who are the 'must see' household names? Boxing is niche even now and it's only getting smaller outside of Germany, the U.K. And Eastern Europe.

I just stopped caring and focusing on that stuff and only focus on the sport aspect of boxing and the fights being made.

Then again, how sure can any of us outsiders be of how these things really work?

Yeah I dont get how a lot of Berto level guys get the purses they do, you ask any random person walkind down the street who andre berto is and they would give you a blank stare, so where does the million dollars come from? Also surprised how much more boxers make than MMA, I get that dana white rips them off but you would think the popularity of MMA would make up for that and then some, but they get paid peanuts in comparison and MMA has been on free TV for a while now too.

I think most boxing fans are older gentleman, fans that have been there since the 70s, 80s, 90s, not this younger gen that are use to the social network world, these guys have follow the sport for years, when i go to boxing events i mostly see older gentleman

UFC crowd is not as loyal as boxing, ive been to both events n the fans seem different
