Comments Thread For: Eleider Alvarez vs. Jean Pascal in Play, Not Stevenson Mandatory

Although he's been the mandatory challenger since last November's final eliminator victory over Isaac Chilemba, undefeated contender Eleider Alvarez (19-0, 10KOs) may have two fights that separate him from a potential meeting with WBC light heavyweight king Adonis Stevenson.

Guessing when Alvarez fought Chilemba for the mandatory spot he wasn't expecting he'd have to face Dawson and then Pascal as well. Both have looked shot recently and he should win but doesn't seem like a good idea to be signed to the same promoter as the cherry-picking world champ you're trying to force a shot against. Stevenson will delay this fight until 2026 if he can and Michel/Haymon will approve.

Yvon has his "in house" business there -- Adonis, Alvarez, Beterbiev... He doesn't give a shit.

The Pascal fight gets him a payday and more recognition. Stevenson is in a dangerous fight himself so you don't know how that will end up. If Pascal pulls it off than a fight against Stevenson will still be big in Canada.

He's saying EA vs Stevenson not attractive enough for US networks?
Showtime put on Stevenson vs Sukhotsky, CBS did the Bika fight and I have no idea who did the Karpency fight...but if your promoter is saying you're worse than them, sucks for you

Still another reason there needs to be an elite boxing league. This is such a yawn inducing narrative with boxing that no one in the boxing business seems to realize is shrinking their $$$'s every day, month & year as they shout from the rooftops "boxing isn't dead". Nah its obviously not dead & it won't ever be, but you guys are making boxing as irrelevant as Adonis Stevenson is making himself by the day with his opponent selection since Fonfara.

You earn your shot you get your shot should be the standard. Not if it makes dollars it makes sense.

This doesn't suprise me on bit. Stevenson is one of the most protected Champions in boxing today PERIOD. He hasn't been put in an even fight since Fonfara.

Champions like him and promoters like Yvon are reasons why this sport has fallen in the U.S. Market and in sports in general. Alvarez has waited long enough and with all due respect is fighting an over the hill Chad Dawson who should have retired years ago. Then potentially fighting another shot fighter in Pascal does nothing to his credibility either.

If Alvarez doesn't fight Stevenson/Williams next he should fight Beterbiev next (which is highly doubtful) or Slava. Not no former broken champion.

Alvarez is a WBC mandatory so he'll be waiting a long time

Beating the current versions of Dawson and Pascal won't do much to build Alvarez's credibility. The situation at LHW is so annoying.

One has to wonder what Pascal has left after his last 3 fights.
