Two-time world title challenger Denis Shafikov (37-2-1, 20KOs), a 2-1 underdog coming in, was too much for unbeaten rising Olympian Jamel Herring (15-1, 8KOs) for a tenth round TKO win in a lightweight bout.

      • The crowd knows what's up.

Herring mighta turned it around with a knockout at the end of the 10th. At least give the man a shot.

Bad call by the corner. Let your fighter go out on his shield. Let him fight for his life with will and leather.
Depends who it is but being able to live a healthy life, raise your kids, talk like an intelligent human being. Those things carry more value and glory than a moment in a boxing ring.

Regarding Herring, he's got such a good jab and has no idea how to implement it. Shame.

Teddy was practically begging Herring's corner two switch to plan B but from the looks of that I guess they never had one.

            • Really sad seeing such a great guy like Herring take a beating like that. But this was a mismatch when they signed the contract and when they had Shaf as the underdog, that was a joke played by someone. Too many people are wined, dined, and seduced by unbeaten records. Hope Herring recovers. He really go a late start to his pro career. Wasn't on the same skill and talent level as Shaf.

Yea, I mean there is a fine line and has to be a balance, but you also rob a fighter of the opportunity to do something great in the ring, those moments when you fight through and persevere make you stronger.

The only problem with that scenario is I don't think Herring even buzzed him with something meaningful even once the previous 9 rounds.

He didn't overtrain and he wasn't overmatched. He just got flat out beaten. Bullied. Broken.

You don't win fights on paper, you win them in the ring.
