I wouldn't count the interim as official defences. I never used the argument of the title defences. The WBA "regular" title is an interim title unless there isn't a Super champion. If there's no super champion then the "regular" title is the actual title. But TBH I don't care about that record. Most GGG fans dont care either.

Regular is not interim, we all know that guy is an idiot. Gamboa was allowed to unify his regular title, and they call Jacobs world champ on Pbc. Besides Ggg was way more of a champ than Wba super duck Sturm

The point is, Golovkin was not the top WBA champ until AFTER the Geale fight..... which is 5/6 legitimate defences, albeit against weak opposition.

At that point in time, the WBA " super " champion was not Sturm.

The WBA " super " champion was in fact Daniel Geale, who beat Sturm on Sep 1st 2012 in Germany.....

Since then, Golovkin has fought 6 times.

So yea, 6 legitimate defences, albeit against mostly poor competition.

Technically, GGG has a career-defining fight in the future too if are were to believe DLH & GBP. But your examination of the issue is slightly false when you examine the coin from GGG's perspective. Wade was a mandatory. And if GGG wanted to continue his dream of being undisputed, he had to fight Wade. That simple. No one is forcing Ward to fight Brand. Ward & his team chose this journeyman all on their own. Additionally, who's left for GGG? We can even go down the list of legit opponents & give you excuses why neither of em don't want to fight GGG right now. No one in boxing has ever seen this kind of avoidance. That's why GGG is the most talked about boxer in the world.

How is a fight against Alvarez career defining? It's a big fight popularity-wise but from a pure boxing standpoint, how does beating Alvarez define Golovkin. Alvarez isn't considered the consensus best in any division and Golovkin is already consensus best MW.

Naw man...Ward had 2 opportunities to make the Bute fight before Froch fought him. And even after that, Ward still could have fought him. The transitive property does not work in boxing. Just because so-and-so beat him, doesn't mean that you'll beat him. You let your fists do the talking in boxing. And in his last fight against Barrera, they tried to sell him as the former undisputed champion at 168. That's why I've criticized Ward. He never fought either of the Dirrells, he never fought Bute, & he never fought DeGale. And I'm not alone in this. And clearly, choosing Brand (how old is he again?) is not going to help Ward prepare for Kovalev...he just won't. That's why it's worth questioning Ward's actions...he won the super-6 years ago...but in this sport, it's what have you done for me lately. You can't keep bringing up the super-6 without being rebutted with 4 straight tune-ups. At least Kovalev chose a defense-minded Chilemba. Please, do some research.

Name 1 LHW that presents the same type of challenge as Kovalev. Also, did not Hunter say Brand was not the 1st choice and not the only offer made but the fight that could be made by the HBO deadline for Ward's tune up. Also, how is Barrera a tune up? It was Ward first fight at 175 and Barrera was IBF mandatory. Lastly, Ward was the best at 168. Why have a problem with HBO selling that point. Don't hate Ward for HBO misuse of undisputed. It's semantics anyway. Ward at 168 was the current GGG at 160. Consensus best without having all the belts.
