It will be interesting to see how he does. He had some good potential with his high work rate of powerful combinations. He needs to stay focused and fight 3 or 4 times a year to stay sharp. He has been averaging 18 months between fights and that is probably holding him back. He is probably rusty for every fight. He isn't getting any younger so if he is has any chance of winning a title belt he should speed things up. I don't know if Wolfe makes that much difference. Kirkland is the one in the ring doing the fighting. He deserves most of the credit for his good fights and his bad fights. A boxer can get in top shape by training hard with conventional training methods. He doesn't need to go through a torture chamber.

Was kinda thinking the same thing. Don't think he needs to retire, there is still some money he's left on the table, but he is quite a bit dense at times. In his defense though, I hear Ann is probably the most grueling trainer in the sport currently. So I'm guessing he just got tired of putting himself thru all that... even though he can't win much without her.

Anyone remember the funny theory that they split because they were having sex and it made things awkward, lol.

I've seen a Youtube interview where she says she hated seeing Kirkland's destruction vs Canelo.

He showed a lot of heart against Canelo. He was beaten up in the 1st round but came back to hurt Canelo in the 2nd. He was knocked out cold, no amount of heart was going to change that.

Agreed, like Roy Jr said during that fight... what the he!! is keeping him upright? This next fight will indeed be interesting IMO.

As for the Ann Wolfe reference ... her needing Kirkland? He may need her, but she definitely doesn't need him. She's doing fine without him.
