  • How would Mike Tyson have faired against modern day sized heavyweights?

Happy 50th birthday to one of my favourite boxers and idols of all time. Was just curious to see how everyone thinks Mike Tyson would have faired with the massive heavyweights we have nowadays such as:
    -Joshua
    -Wilder
    -Fury
    -Klitschko
Just to name a few. Tyson as many are aware was listed as 5"11 and has even been said go have been closer to 5"9. I will let someone else get the ball rolling... :boxing

Oh yeah guys, watch the Jose Ribalta fight...

For those saying he never fought anyone big, besides Lewis, didn't he also fight big guys like Tony Tucker who was 6"5 and 34-0 when Tyson beat him to unify all 4 belts. Tyson did fight several large HWs which people forget about.

Not good at all. Many people hate this realization as tyson was their childhood superman.A lot of guy would be able to control Tyson at range with jabs such as both Klitschos. I feel like it would be very hard for Tyson to get distance to land those short hooks.

I think guys like Fury, Wilder, Wlad beat Tyson easily...

I remember watching Tyson fight back in the day. He knocked out so many guys much bigger than him. I met him a few years ago and he appears to be about 5'9 or so. He's built like a fireplug though. He got such leverage on his punches that he felled the largest of opponents. I don't think Vlad would have given him much trouble. AJ might due to his athleticism. Tyson was such a brawler that Wilder (unless he could escape) would probably go down like a ton of bricks as would Fury IMHO.

Prime Tyson would have been a problem for all of those guys....his defense is underrated, head movement sublime. Offense goes w/o saying.

Only Klitchsko would have a good chance to beat him out of the guys you named, his jab is kryptonite to shorter fighters and he knows how to grapple and hold on the inside. If the referee allows Wlad's wrestling, he wins. If not, Mike could certainly find a way to Wlad's chin.

whats with the obsession with height, reach and weight on this site? He has more skills than 90 % of the guys today...Many dont know how to use the clinch and not many have a great jab or the movement required to keep him off of them...Tyson was an athletic guy, skilled, powerful and fast

I can see the klitchkos but Alot of guys...i doubt it

Tyson fought some big heavies....Ruddock, Lewis, Tucker, Biggs, Bruno, Douglass, etc....at or near his prime he had to get the breaks beat off of him before he succumb to punishment.

Of the current heavy weights, the guy with the best shot to get by Tyson would probably be Anthony Joshua...he has the size, he has good punching technique, but then again Tyson has blitzed some big guys.

Fury with all that wasted motion and low punch output isnt gonna work against a prime Tyson, and Tyson pre prison actually worked out of the clinch and had mad body shots and threw his combos in up down, body head body fashion

I dont know if anyone today could make it 12 rounds with a prime Tyson.

Wlad and Vitali have the best shot though like you said

Are we talking about Tyson with Cus or without. With Cus I give him a shot against anyone, not so much without......

Tyson Fury v Mike Tyson size difference is similar to the average guy on here fighting a 10 year old.

But seriously, the heavyweight game is totally different now just due to sheer size. Your average HW these days is about 6'5" and fairly heavy. That would be a HUGE heavyweight in Tyson's day, very rare. Are they more skilled today? maybe not, but the ones who are not bums might deal with Tyson, there will be a point where sheer size takes over and makes it extremely difficult.

I think prime Vitali Klitschko would have KO'd Tyson. I do actually think Wlad is more skilled than Vitali, but Vitali was much tougher and wouldn't be bullied.

Nearly all of Tyson's opponents were taller than him. A young, focused Tyson was hard to hit. He wasn't just a devastating puncher. He would have destroyed Wilder, Fury, & Wlad once he caught up to them, because his power is too much. They would have had hell hitting him. Vitali might have given him some trouble, because he's tougher than Wlad. Mike may have had to decision him or cut his eyes for a stoppage. Joshua is athletic enough to trouble Mike, but he gets hurt from Mike's counter left hooks & straight rights.

If thats the case why'd valuev struggle to beat an ancient Holyfield and beat by a former cruiser weight in david haye

size matters but skills matters more

Tyson beat several 6'4" and 220 + men

depends what tyson we're talking about.
If it's the Prime tyson, then he knocks them all out with relative ease.
