  • Ken Porter is holding back Shawn Porter. It's time he changes trainers.

Ken Porter is s strength and conditioning coach trying to be a trainer.

He plateaued with his dad; it's time to change trainers, he has pimped out his son long enough. Ken Porter never boxed before and can't teach his son the technical skills he needs to beat the top level welters. He has two losses because his dad got scared and froze. When Shawn worries he looks to his father for answers. But how can he get help from a mother****er who's scared himself?? The shots Porter took are going to make him reevaluate things.

But because Ken Porter is so overbearing he would never try to help his son get better coaching. Plus he's greedy and controls Shawn's money that he earns from prizefighting. Sadly I think Shawn is too brainwashed by his dad to realize this.

OP posts threads on here about street fights, stalking women, and ********** threads about "feeling a man's power". I suspect his training insights might be lacking...

Angelo Dundee is an ATG trainer...never boxed and trained some of the greatest boxers of all time....Ali, Leonard, Luis Rodriquez, etc.

Not true Larry take a look at all these great trainers like Dundee they weren't the ones working the focus pads they always have ex fighters doing that. A person who has boxed can show moves how to throw the correct punch use power defense. The ones who never boxed can't be be good teachers but they can talk a good game in the corner to motivate his fighter and some are good at that.

Hilarious! True, you get a better perspective of certain posters when you see the stuff they post in the Lounge.

I disagree. I think he's maximized his potential given his skill and physical abilities.

Have you ever heard the expression, Those who can, do; Those that cant, teach?

With that said, there have been plenty of trainers that have never fought, Jack Mosley, Enzo Calzaghe, Ruben Guerrero, and I dont think Danny Garcias dad did either. I dont think their sons have done so bad. One could actaully be considered his countries best product or even best SMW of all time, not a bad feat imo.

I don't think anyone else could get anything out of Shawn Porter than what his dad can. I just dont see Porter ever being a defensive fighter or a stylist. The bst thing about that is his dad seen that in him and thats why dads can be the best trainers. I know each one of my boys strengths and weaknesses and I dont try and train them to a style that benefits what I train best like a lot of pro trainers do ie; Roach = aggression Hunter = defense/footwork

I don't think he can change much at this point and honestly then only thing he needs to do a bit better is not smother his own work. He has the body type that he needs to be a rough pressure fighter. He does a good job getting inside and he uses his physicality well.

Now he needs to stop about 6 inches shorter than he does to land punch or combination before pushing all the way in and maul to limit what they can fire back. If he manages to push a guy to the ropes he needs to work on pushing off and freeing himself up so he can take a half step back to really go to work on the other guy.

This isn't like rocket science stuff so I think Porter's dad gets it fine, but it is much easier to say than do in the heat of a pitched battle. SO I don't know if Porter will ever really be able to maximize his style.

It definitely wouldn't hurt to have someone else with insight and experience work with Shawn. He's too wild IMO & needs some refinement. A good boxer will pick him apart.
