The Murray fight was Feb 21st. The Monroe Jr fight was announced March 13th. A little over two weeks. Fastest negotiations ever. And fights are made before they're officially announced. So who did they possibly negotiate with in two weeks besides Monroe Jr? And it wasn't a PPV build up because Lemieux hadn't fought N'dam when the Monroe Jr fight was announced. Johnson had fought a month prior to the GGG vs Murray fight and didn't fight again until he was on GGG's undercard. Johnson was rumored for that fight. They choose the cheapest option, Monroe Jr. Geale and Rubio weren't overpaid. Geale was a former champ and Rubio was the eliminator. Monroe Jr was severely underpaid. He took a 90/10 split. Even Dan Rafael, who complains about fighters being overpaid, couldn't believe Monroe Jr was getting that small of an amount.

Rubio 900/450
No way are guys like that getting those splits vs dominant A side champs with Hbo exclusive contracts.
The figh was in may, you better have something lined up by mid March. If your other options are as ****ty, might as well close. You trying to say they ducked Tureano or something?Comment

Rubio was an ELIMINATOR!!!! His shot at the WBC belt. What don't you understand about that? Even though Cotto or Canelo didn't fight him at the time that was the route to fight Cotto/Martinez winner for the big payday. Then became the route to fight the Cotto/Canelo winner for the big payday. That was to put himself in position for the big fight against an established star. That was the most significant fight of his career. He wouldn't have the green belt without that fight. And he was already a champion of another sanctioning body so strings were pulled to get him that fight.
No he didn't duck Johnson. He went for the cheapest fight available. When Sanchez asked why they choose Monroe he said because he's the Boxino champ and they wanted to show how GGG would look against a slick southpawAnd his purses against Rubio and Geale still doesn't justify a $100k purse for Monroe Jr. That's ridiculous. Especially when the split is 90/10. I can understand a 90/10 split against Floyd because you're still getting $3 mil. Nobody should be fighting Golovkin for $100k

This crap is from daily mail, They know as much as a 6 year old when it comes to boxing. I would NOT take this article as facts. Eubank jr is getting a split from the PPV and this is what his father was fighting Sky for. Not because they are scared of GGG, this fight would probably make big money on PPV over here and it is great that Eubank jr would be well compensated if the PPV is a success.Last edited by Ray*; 06-30-2016, 02:42 AM.Comment

Geale was the first former world champion he'd faced. That fight was to show how GGG fared against other world champions. Geale was only two fights removed from losing his world title.

I feel.for Monroe, wish he'd had gotten more but that's the one time that Ggg took a lopsided purse against a guy bringing nothing to the table. Every time an opponent brings anything, they get overpaidComment

Ggg sold all the tickets to Geale and even Rubio, all the viewers were tuning in for him, and he was the champ both times. Guys in his position don't concede splits like that to that type of opponent

I don't care if Rubio didn't sell one ticket. It was the eliminator for the WBC belt. They paid him what they both thought was fair. If each side didn't feel it was fair they would've went to a purse bid. The eliminator was worth a lot because of the situations I explained in my previous posts. There's a reason they bent the rules to get that fight.Comment

Considering the nature of the bout and it will inevitably be PPV, I have no problem with the purses. The Eubanks should try make as much money as possible as this is the hardest fight Jr could go for and also the peak of middleweight boxing. No one else wants the fight and this is the single toughest fight available in boxing right now P4P imo. May the best man win!Comment

i assume that the $4m is not a guarantee but an estimate once PPV sales have been accounted for
it'll be a big fight here. way bigger than golovkin-saunders. everyone knows the eubanks, sky sports will go all-out marketing the fight and it sort of has a "creed" storyline going for it. the action should be fun while it lasts, too. this is a great fight for golovkin's profileComment
