Yes it's risk assessment. The same reason GGG would only give Ward a 50/50 split if he could get the advantage on weight. Floyd paid well but there was also a lot to gain just by fighting Floyd as far as popularity. You became an instant household name just by fighting Floyd. You don't get that with GGG. So instead of asking for $10 mil to fight Floyd you get $3-$4 mil. And if they were lucky enough to pull off the upset they're instantly the highest paid fighter in the sport. If Jacobs or Saunders beat GGG they're just the unified champ. Hopkins also took the risk assesment against Oscar and it paid off. He gave up weight and being the A-side as the Champion. If beating GGG made you an instant star while getting paid decent you'd see a lot more fighters ready to step up. What did fighting GGG do for Willie Monroe other than make him a laughingstock?

Yes. If you read my first comment you'll see I said Eubank Sr did a good job of pressuring the networks to come up with the money to get the fight made. You commented in the thread when people were saying Jr is going to duck the fight over money. That turned out not to be true.
Jr doesn't have a long term contract with Matchroom. He's only there for three fights. He turned down a fight with Jacobs and a big money fight with BJS. He took a gamble and it paid off it seems. He's taking another gamble, the gamble to be great because he's nowhere near ready for GGG.
K2 needs to put pressure on HBO to come up with the money to make the fights. They didn't even pressure them to make the Cotto or Canelo fight. That's my problem with Loeffler. He took the formula that worked for Wlad and applied it to GGG. Get the belts and fight the number one contender. But it doesn't work like that in the lower weight classes because fighters can move up or down. As you see with Eubank, he's not ready for GGG but he made the fight for the right amount of money. He wasn't going to fight him for $1 million dollars. It's not fear, it's money that's stopping these fights from being made.Comment

The funniest thing about all this *****ing is that the guys who should really have the ****s are BJS and Jacobs.
Whilst Eubank is allegedly staring at a $4 million payday and a chance to be no.1, those 2 are sitting at home with their thumbs up their arseComment

Eubank Jr.'s competition is as good as Golovkin's, so I don't see a difference there. I think Eubank has a 50/50 chance of winning... unless Golovkin is allowed to wear those gloves with virtually no padding that give him an unfair advantage over his opponent.Comment

Oh yeah I'm sure K2 can pressure HBO in paying BJS or Saunders $4m it's so simple! Double the amount Golovkin has ever made in his career and do the same for the opponent for guys without big names! I'm sure HBO would cave right in for that! Hey, here's $8 million just for the main event, which is a big chunk of HBOs shrinking budget, I'm sure they'll sign on that with a little pressure from Tom Loeffler!
Let me give you a perfect example. Golovkin was on the come up on HBO. He was making his bones, fighting whomever they put in front of him, working his way up the rankings. He got the Stevens fight on HBO. Strong card. Had the Perez vs. Magomed fight on the card. It did good ratings. But then he had to go to Monaco to fight Adama which wasn't televised on HBO. He was still making his name so that's cool. Came back on HBO and fought Geale. Strong card. Had the Bryant vs. Perez fight. The eliminator for Klitschko. Good ratings. Got the co-main event against Rubio on the Donaire vs Walters card. Another good card with good rankings and it was a WBC eliminator. He was in the perfect position. Went back to Monaco to fight Murray. But this time HBO picked up the fight. Now they're 100% behind him. He's the WBC mandatory and they have the WBC champion fighting on their network. Took care of business against Murray. Now, HBO tells him. This is your showcase fight. Your chance to introduce yourself as the Mandatory to the winner of Cotto vs Geale. And what does he do? PICKS WILLIE FREAKIN MONROE!!!!!! He got his highest licensing fee from HBO and got his highest payday and paid Monroe Jr $100k! They didn't even attempt to get another opponent because that fight was signed, sealed, and delivered two weeks after the Murray fight.Comment

That would be HUGE for the UK especially for Eddie Hearn who wants to make the UK the new Mecca of boxing as he talked about Boxing in the US will have a dry spell and I think he is rigt it will be a struggle for awhile in the US until something interesting comes along that can grab and keep the attention of CasualsLast edited by sicko; 06-30-2016, 01:09 AM.Comment

Ok so what do they do in the meantime? This is the problem. They pretty much know now that fighters are gonna want somewhere around $3 mil to fight him. Their plan so far has been to sit back and complain. And boxing fans accept the excuse that HBO is having budget problems. That's not my problem. I've paid my subscription faithfully the past 5 years. Arum doesn't have a star on HBO but he's still finding ways to get big fights made. K2's plan is to cry to the media and feel sorry for themselves. That's not a business strategy. If Eubank hadn't save their a** they would be fighting Heiland in September smh. Then you got the Lara fight. That fight has boxing fans attention. More people want that fight than the Heiland fight. But if you ask Loeffler about it he "Lara's people haven't contacted. I don't even know how much it'll cost to make that fight. I dont even know how much Lara would want" WTF Tom??? If your options are Heiland or Lara pick up the phone and call Lara's people. You're the A-side in that fight. The A-side chooses what opponents they fight. I don't see Canelo waiting on opponents to call him. Floyd didn't wait on opponents to call him. Ward doesn't wait on opponents to call him. They're aren't proactive at all.
