So if GGG is a bigger star than Wilder and Jacobs is more known than Povetkin, why can't K2 make money on a $6 mil dollar purse?
Boxing promoters never lie. Especially those playing with other people's money, or Looney Russian tycoons filing ridiculous 35m defamation lawsuits.

The biggest combined purse for a Ggg fight is 3.5m, just about broke even. It's not obvious he can do 2x just like that

If they can't afford a $5-$6 mil TOTAL dollar purse then the fight needs to marinate and be built up. There have been HBO world championship boxing fights and regular showtime fights with $4 million dollar total purses. Jacobs isn't taking the same amount of money fighting GGG as he made fighting Quillin. Jacobs doesn't deserve the lions share but he deserves more than he got against Quillin. GGG can't fight off of HBO so he has to come up with the money if he wants the fight.

Not lately with these budgets, you dont see 4m cards. I think he'd get more than for Quillin but I wouldn't say he deserves more with those sad numbers he posted with Quillin

It's not about the last numbers he did against Quillin. Since GGG is tied to HBO he has to offer Jacobs more than he'd get in the open market. How much do you think Showtime would pay for a Jacobs vs GGG fight? Jacobs shouldn't have to take less than he'd get in the open market because GGG's network is having budget problem. That's GGG and HBO's problem. They made the decision to cut the boxing budget and spend it elsewhere like vinyl which was canelled after one season. The $100 million dollar show. And Bill Simmons show and website that's doing horribly. Why should Jacobs have to deal with HBO's problems?

GGG a bigger star but like NATAS said there might be more upside with Wilder

K2 is some ways has done a great job marketing Gennady but in some ways though it leaves much to be desired because if it continues stat quo then his star power has reached its peak.

I'm not sure Sho would offer more than Hbo, seems like lose lose. Pay a ton to an Hbo guy to come destroy your guy and go back to Hbo. Hopefully we find out soon if it's ordered after Jacobs is through with Mora

And therein lies the flaw in your logic. Jacobs got $1.5 million from the "irrational player" who was willing to lose 7 figures on the event. That certainly wont be repeated by anyone else, and odds are even the "irrational player" wont be writing checks that big again. Instead of looking at the Quillin purse as some sort of benchmark (which the attendance and ratings proved Jacobs was WAY overpaid) the Mora fight would probably be a better standard of what Jacobs baseline pay looks like

"Sells out arenas coast to coast"

More like sold out an arena on each coast once

I'm not talking about Jacobs vs. Quillin. I'm talking about the Wilder vs. Povetkin fight. DiBella said he could make a profit on 5 mil and Ryabinski said he could make a profit on 7 mil. GGG is a bigger star than Wilder and Povetkin isn't as known in the states as Povetkin. So with GGG being a bigger star he and his team should be able to come up with $6 mil and make a profit.

And you as a former promoter should know you don't make profits on every fight. Fights are an investment. You lose money on some fights in order to build a fighter. Do you consider yourself an irrational player? DiBella says he loses money on his Broadway Boxing Series and that has nothing to do with Haymon.
