  • Is GGG a bigger star than Wilder?

I think he is. He sells out arenas from coast to coast. He has more endorsement deals. He's carried a PPV against a no name fighter. I don't think Wilder vs anybody but Joshua could get more than 150,000.

So why can't K2 come up with money to make fights? DiBella was able to come up with $5 mil to bid on Wilder. Ryabinsky came up with $7.1 mil and scheduled the fight in Russia although he said he'd probably be able to make more money in Brooklyn. That $5 mil would've been $3 million for Wilder plus another 10% if he won.

If DiBella can make money off Wilder with $5 million to spend, why can't K2 make money off GGG with $6 mil? Povetkin isn't a bigger name than Jacobs in America. Wilder isn't a bigger name than GGG. That's 2.5 mil for Jacobs and $3.5 mil for GGG. Or even split it in half and that's $3 mil each.

Another question. Why can't K2 come up with enough money to bring Eubank Jr over? The MW champ, three belt holder, biggest star stateside next to Canelo, is travelling to the UK to fight as a B-side on a Matchroom card to a domestic level fighter. Hearn came up with enough money to make the fight. Once K2 played the risk/reward game with Ward they opened themselves up for it to be played on them. Especially when Ward moved up to take the risk. If fighters are going to take the risk fighting the best MW out there it has to be some reward behind it. Gaining fairweather fans on twitter and NSB who'll abandon you as soon as you lose isn't a reward. Just ask Willie Monroe.

"I really thought about having the fight take place in America. There are positives in doing so. First, the economy. And secondly, Alexander will not have the pressure of dealing with [the local media] abroad. But I came to the conclusion that this is not a fight in which to experiment," Ryabinsky said. The Russian promoter admits that he is not making a profit with this fight taking place in Russia, considering the high cost of the purse bid and related event costs.

"I had several options - cut the money or to create a comfortable environment for Alexander," - Ryabinsky said. "Of course, I've decided to chose the latter. The fight will be in Russia. We will be very happy to have Deontay Wilder and his team as our guests. I do not know who will win in this battle - Alexander or Deontay Wilder. But I want to be calm, I've done everything I could on my end - and now it all depends on Alexander."

So my main point is DiBella could make a profit from $5 mil with Wilder-Povetkin and Ryabinski said he could make a profit in America off of $7 million. But GGG is a bigger star than Wilder and Jacobs is more known in America than Povetkin who has almost no presence here. Why can't K2 come up with any money? Something is not adding up.

Anybody else think that if K2 wasn't GGG's promoter that he would be more popular? Say if he had Arum or Goldenboy

No way GGG is a bigger draw than Wilder. He is a nice guy and probably the best boxer of this current generation but that doesn't make money in boxing, people want to watch *******s like Tyson Fury fight in hope that they get knocked out. Controversial fighters sell tickets. Fury flew out to New York to give Wilder **** after his fight because when they eventually fight it will attract the casuals. GGG is humble and unfortunately that is his downfall.

Neither one of them wants to fight a quality opponent in what would be considered a 50-50 fight. Neither one are stars.

This isn't a debate. The numbers prove GGG is a bigger star.

Wilder-Joshua would break 97K with ease.

Clearly, but GGG has been given the HBO path to success, complete with it's own train.
Wilder was fighting in the afternoon not long ago. I don't know if he'll ever take off but they haven't had the same level of exposure and GGG is the bigger name for sure.

More importantly a better resume. We still don't know what lil g can and can't do against good comp. Does he have stamina problems? Can he take it to the body? What about his chin? Can he put it in another gear? 10 years in and 34 years old we should have so idea about those things.

As for the K2 thing, they are in it for the money. It's the same reason they don't take chances with him. He's an investment for them, they don't care about him being a boxing hero.

Right now he is but Wilder can be much bigger for the simple fact he's an American heavyweight.
