I don't think it's about finding the perfect fighter. I think most people would like one who is exceptional in certain areas or even one area. Guys like Tito and Shane weren't perfect but the best parts of their game were outstanding. Thurman doesn't excel at any one thing, neither does Porter. It's just a weak era.
