Comments Thread For: Arum Feels Fans Will Move Past Mayweather, Pacquiao By 2017

Boxing is still searching for the next crossover superstar. In the last twelve months, the two biggest names in the sport announced their retirements. Last September, former five division world champion Floyd Mayweather Je. retired after winning a twelve round decision over Andre Berto. This past April at the same Las Vegas venue, Manny Pacquiao announced his retirement after winning his trilogy bout with Timothy Bradley.

Idk. Floyd & Manny were 1 & 2 for a long a$$ time & guys are still talking about Floyd & Manny being their potential next fights so I think this could go on for awhile.

I got over it the day after the fight. Been a boxing fan for a long time and have seen my share of disappointing fights

Much respect to both and I've enjoyed watching both but I'm over them already.

I think once neither guy returns by December, most fans will start talking about something else.

I moved past it May 6th 2015. Most of us did. Delusional Pac turds are the only ones who haven't.

The biggest difference in their departures - when compared to many of the greats who walked away - is that neither fighter 'passed the torch' to someone younger coming up in the ranks. Mayweather had the chance, as fighters like Keith Thurman and Amir Khan were in the running to face him in September - but the retired pound-for-pound king settled on Berto, who was tabbed as a high as a 80-1 underdog by some oddsmakers. Pacquiao was in the same boat. He could have faced Khan or Terence Crawford, but settled on a fighter who many felt he had already beaten twice with few issues.

Because neither of them passed the torch, a lot of fans continue to discuss comebacks for the two and continue to align their names with the top fighters from 140 to 154.
Nobody passed the torch to Pacquiao or Floyd. They went out and took it. This line of thinking is ******. Who has Crawford or Thurman beat to deserve a shot at Pacquiao or Floyd? And before you ask who did Berto beat to deserve a shot at Floyd the answer is NOBODY. Floyd earned the right to go out on his own and fight Berto, as well as Manny earning his right to go out fighting Bradley.

I get tired of these writers trying to downplay the accomplishments of Manny and Mayweather. NONE of these fighters today deserve to be in the same gym as Manny and Floyd.

These fighters think they can p*ssy foot around and win the Manny/Floyd sweepstakes. Show me the Emmanuel Augustus on Thurman's resume. Show me the Ledwaba on Crawford resume. Those tough fights early in your career where you gotta prove your worth against a tough veteran who is never an easy out. None of these fighters deserved to fight Pac or Mayweather!!!!!!!
