Let's not forget the USSR's extensive tradition in amateur boxing, as one of the powerhouses in amateur boxing for decades.

A ton of great fighters, ex-soviet countries like Ukraine, and even foreign countries like Cuba have benefited greatly from the soviet experience and technical prowess in amateur boxing.

Cubans weren't jack **** in amateur in boxing, until the USSR send soviet trainers there, to teach them how to fight properly, as part of the close relationship both countries had during the cold war era.

It's thanks to USSR, that Cuba is the amateur powerhouse it is currently. If the iron curtain had fell sooner and russians had been allowed to compete professionally since, let's say, the 50's or 60's, you can bet many of the legendary boxing champions from murica would be footnotes in history instead of legends.

Boxing is not that popular in 1st world wealthy nations like Germany and France. Wealthy individuals in general tend to steer clear of boxing, this is why you see so much higher participation rates in emerging economies or poor nations.

Eastern Europe ain't nothing special

Bulgaria, Hungary, Romania,etc, those countries aren't jack **** in boxing, they're on the same level as western countries like France and Italy.

only the ex-SOVIET nations like Ukraine, Chechnya, Kazakhztan and Russia are producing great fighters. there's a reason for that.The superior Rus' genes, and the mental and physical toughness that comes from having russian genes in your blood, even more if you have a soviet background, such as the Klitschkos.

Even guys like GGG, a mixed race from an ex-soviet country, benefits from their russian heritage, GGG is what he is thanks to his mostly russian genes. he owes nothing to koreans, koreans are soft people who cant fight. specially south koreans

So no, eastern euros aren't doing great, it's only russians. russians by heritage, ex-soviets if you want to call them that. It's only the descendants of the Rus', the strongest of all slavic people in history

Cuba couldn't win **** in amateur boxing prior to the USSR's influence, they were a non entity at the Olympics and everything amateur related

Cuba had pro boxing before the Cuban revolution in 1959, then Castro took over and boxing was banned for years, until Castro decided to use the sport as a means of exhibiting the success of the socialist government, and winning medals in international tourneys became a priority

That's when the Soviet Union sent experienced trainers like Andrei Chervorenko (Teofilo stevenson's trainer) to help develop Cuban fighters for amateur boxing, because the entire boxing landscape in Cuba was in ruins after years of ban, and not suited for the amateur game

Cuba would have never been an amateur powerhouse or produced fighters like Rigondeaux without the Soviet influence
