It is more important to get the contract you want, than the promoter.

The drivers seat =
1) the final say re: your opponent/purse, but be reasonable, or you get nothing
2) a short-term (1 fight, or 12 month) contract, so that you can re-negotiate your "worth" as your career unfolds.

The days of promoters turning you into a star, and yet paying you what your contract stipulated 5 years ago..... should be long gone.
