Comments Thread For: Arum: Lomachenko Said Verdejo Was Best Amateur He Fought

A few years ago, Top Rank's CEO Bob Arum signed a group of top amateurs including Jose Ramirez, Oscar Valdez, Felix Verdejo and the pick of the litter - two-time Olympic gold medal winner Vasyl Lomachenko.

considering the guys he fought, hard to believe. I dont remember him having any trouble with Verdejo, who was just a kid at the time

This is where Loma needs to go. I like it. Verdejo? I don't think he'll ever be ready, but lightweights, big game.

That's gotta make Puerto Rican fans proud...Loma must have seen something special if he's picking Verdejo out of those 3.

They're just trying to hype up Verdejo as usual. Loma said Verdejo was the best out of Ramirez, Valdez, and Verdejo.

Loma has one of the best amateur resumes. No way was Verdejo one of the top 10.
Selimov, Conceicao, Toledo, Gaibnazarov all rank ahead of Verdejo and all of them are still in the top 5 of their divisions. All four have a very good chance to medal at these next Olympics.
Then you also have Vodopyanov, who was a monster in his prime (which was pretty short prime imo) and Valentino.
That's some of the fighters I could think off the top of my head that rank higher than Verdejo.

I'm not mad that they're trying to hype him.

It reads like Lomachenko was saying he was the best of just those 3 (Ramirez, Valdez, Verdejo)....perhaps retold in a vague enough way by Arum that it could be misconstrued to mean every amateur he faced.

            IOW, promoter speak/arum speak.

Verdejo should of stayed in the amateurs then cause he sucks as a professional and beating up a bum nobodies heard of this past saturday is not impresive at all.

Arum is already trying to make Verdejo look better than what he really is...I think Ramirez, Valdez and that Diaz kid can beat Verdejo in the pros...just saying...the three whose last names end in "z."
