I mean the amount is debatable & I see a solid argument its too high with this new requirement, but I think its obvious more money should be put forward for the fighters in case of serious injury. And I'm sure NY realizes this cuz of the Magomed fight, but its probably something more people should be doing all over the US & the world before bad things happen.

Arum is right on this one. This will completely kill off smaller cards and promoters from doing business there. Even the big players will shy away from there 99% of the time.

I understand them wanting to protect the fighters, but there has to be a balance. I believe all the commissions should charge a small tax, that would go into a fund, for when disaster strikes.

buying more insurance and putting up a million dollar bond for every fighter is different. i'm with uncle bob on this one. the people writing these things have no idea what they're doing.

Crazy for NY to do something like this unless they plan on doing it with all other sports where injury and liability are present. That would include MMA, football, racing and even basketball. It should also include amateur and college sports. They wouldn't because they fear the loss of revenue.

Yea the amount is debatable like I said & from $10k to $1M is an extreme f#cking jump no question about that, but I'm for more protection for fighters & I'm sure some more reasonable middle ground between $10k & $1M can & will be reached before Sept. 1.

Like I said I ultimately expect this to be a non-story as the protection needs to be upped & nothing is happening for another 2.5mos, but NY mighta over did it if you can barely find people willing to even offer this type of policy obviously. So both sides need to come together.

              MMA is part of it.

I'm assuming the states need to deal with boxing & MMA make them unique in this regard to the other sports mentioned. If someone gets f#cked up in a NFL or NBA game ultimately the NFL or NBA is on the hook not the state of NY. If something happens in the boxing ring or MMA cage, the state of NY can be on the hook.

The homie New England has it right.

Regardless of what TR's financial situation, this is a disaster. Smaller promoters won't be able to put on club shows anymore. Hell, Lou Dibella wont be able to afford to put on a fight in NYC unless he was fronting for PBC and that's ****ing absurd.

Its well-meaning legislation but it would likely eradicate the industry in NY outside of Cotto fights at the Garden, when the bill is supposed to be helping fighters in NY. It doesn't help them OR the state of New York if no one can afford to put on fights in NY and they do them in neighboring states instead.
