  • Which boxer retired and stayed retired before incurring permanent damage?

I watched this video of Keith Thurman being interviewed, and it made me wonder -- which boxer had the picture perfect career, i.e. made a good amount of money whether he won or lost and got in and out of the sport without incurring permanent damage that would lower the quality of life after boxing?

Who had an ideal career, considering boxing is the wild, wild west of sports?

Joe Calzaghe. His hands are wrecked but I think he came out of the sport about as handsomely as one could hope to. He's got money, health, fame, etc. People love to rag on him but Joe's the one who gets the last laugh.

Kelly Pavlik, not counting the self-inflicted damage done to his liver and kidneys. Boy likes to drink.

Pavlik. Although thats to be seen cuz I'm not 100% he's an asshat doing asshat **** like I suspect vs he's suffering from CTE.

I always liked Robert Garcia getting out early. I remember him saying he was almost out of the business after the Corrales L & the interviewer was like "nah you got plenty of years in the ring son" or something like that.

I suppose you can say all the guys who retired on top & undefeated like Lopez, Mayweather & Marciano got out at the right time as if their health wasn't 100% intact behind the scenes at least their reps were left at max levels.

So few guys get out early its legit hard to come up with big names off the dome doe. I liked when Trinidad got out, but he let me down with his comeback.

Barely anyone. Even guys that didn't take too much punishment are still f**ked up from years of sparring. Boxing is simply bad for the brain.

Vitali Klitschko, whilst he suffered some injuries to the shoulder etc but I see no sign of ill health or side effect from his lengthy fighting career.
