Boxrec ranks Arreola as the 43rd best heavyweight in the world and the 15th best heavyweight in the USA so this is just another typical average Wilder cherrypick. He is having the fight in his home state just to be extra safe. Mora is ranked as the 37th best middleweight in the world by boxrec so we have a double header of cherrypick title defenses. I remember a time long ago when any decent champion only defended his title against contenders rated among the 10 best in the world. These days anybody in the top 100 can get a title shot as some of these cherrypicking champions.

When wilder won king gave de mori his release out of respect so he could pursue other fights which led to the Haye fight. De mori had a top 15 with both WBA & WBC from winning regional belts. Other fighters outside haymon's stable will need to win regional belts & get into an eliminator situation. It's a keep it in the family sport.
Good post. I do not dislike Arreola, I just tire of Wilder's match making, he gets a pass here with the Povetkin saga.

Kaufman could possibly be a better fight, but I doubt that either he or Arreola have a legit chance at beating Wilder (Kaufman's punching power being what it is likely lessening his shot), and Kaufman does very little to goose the TV number (Arreola at least has the novelty of being a Mexican heavyweight).

Odd that you skipped over Gerald Washington though
Honestly I didn't even notice him on the list. That would be another pretty easy fight to make. Aerrola is still serving his marijuana suspension?

You can thank Hayman and Floyd for this nonsense

I had pretty much made my mind up that I wasn't going to anymore of Wilder's fights until he steps up the comp. But the Provotnikov thing isn't his fault. So if I don't have anything else to do that weekend, I may drive down to Birmingham just for a lil getaway with the ole lady, and catch a fight.

                  Terrible fight.
Arreola could and should be 2-4 in his last 6 fights with those two wins coming against a journeyman & some guy with no chin or amateur pedigree at all that Johnathon ****in' Banks sparked.

Arreola's punch resistance is starting too match his defense too.

He just lost to Fred Kassi & Kaufmann and is now in line for a world title shot? And he just failed a drugs test haa this sport sickens me at times.

Who else is there? Well surely, surely there are better options out there than Chris Arreola.
Even Kaufmann would be a better choice. (Still sucks)

I know that it's not Wilder's fault that Povetkin failed a drugs test, but surely there is better than Arreola?
