Marinating is a word promoters like Oscar use when they don't want the fight to happen at all. Not now and not ever.

That's true but it's just human nature to complain even when you know it won't change a thing. It's like these silly boycott ideas that have zero financial impact on anything. I complain about champions defending their titles against guys not even in the top 50 but I know it won't change.

Marinating pretty much precludes any possibility of a meaningful trilogy. No matter how pac/Floyd turned out (if they'd fought in 2009), there would have been an immediate demand for a rematch.
Same w Canelo/GGG. If GGG lays Canelo out in four rounds (or vice versa), the rematch would be bigger than the original fight. This is where stuff like 24/7 could actually play a huge role. It builds the narrative for casuals.
