Top Rank chief Bob Arum and promoter Tuto Zabala, Jr. of All Star Boxing will meet this week in New York to discuss the possibility of working together with Mexico’s hottest current prospect Saul “Canelo” Alvarez. “Canelo” who is currently rated #4 WBC, #5 WBO and #7 WBA has become a huge idol in Mexico, fighting exclusively on TV giant Televisa in Mexico and selling out arenas throughout the country. Golden Boy signs Alvarez

Golden Boy landed Alvarez -- who Tuto Zabala Jr. claims to have a contract with -- while Zabala and Golden Boy rival Top Rank were in talks to do a co-promotional deal, which would have commenced with Alvarez fighting on the Manny Pacquiao-Joshua Clottey HBO PPV undercard on March 13 at Cowboys Stadium in Arlington, Texas, where Top Rank believed he would draw many Mexican fans.

However, Golden Boy closed the deal, and De La Hoya sounded awfully pleased to beat Top Rank.

I think it will come down to this small promotional outfit getting a more than token percentage on Canelo's fights for the next few years. Probably in the 10-20% range.

Last mention on the Maayweather-Pacquiao event was that the US PPV numbers were well over 4.5m US PPV buys, with 5m being within distance. There are al lot of numbers that are unknown. but the live gate was over $70m, the total event sponsors were almost $15m, and massive TV rates fees were paid out in the UK (BoxNation vs Sky Sports) and Mexico (TV Azteca vs Televisa), with a meaningful amount of money paid out in the Philippines (all of the companies joining together on the bid), not to mention the other markets that carried the fight (the fight was carried on PPV in Canada, Australia, and Puerto Rico, in addition to being broadcast in over 50 countries, with countless other countries carrying the broadcasts from channels airing the event).

You add up the numbers that are generally viewed as being accurate and made available to the public, and you're already well over $600m (and that's not even getting into the various closed circuit revenues picked up by Mayweather-Pacquiao being made exclusive to MGM Resorts).

lol, Golden Boy's ****ed then, ha. If All Star Boxing's plan was to truly leverage their 19-year old wunderkind into establishing their promotional company as a viable top entity in the US and Mexico, Golden Boy is for sure on the hook for the full $80m in total damages.

Golden boy beat the case and canelo only found liable for 8m which he will appeal and likely settle for a fraction of that. To do an appeal they have to front 150% of the judgement, over 12 million. A lot of companies say "I will appeal" and then don't because of further expenses. Considering they didn't exactly make that much money this year as a company, an 8 million hit is quite expensive.

Numerous outlets already reporting that they are appealing. They going to tie this up in court and these fools will settle to avoid more legal fees and risk of getting nothing. Canelo and golden boy have more money then them and can play this out as long as it takes.

They reported it because Golden Boy said they were. They also said Zabala had to pay their legal fees which turns out is a lie.
