In this context even if one accepts that Canelo is essentially a JMW who can't quite make the cut, the 'middle ground' would be about 157-8.

Quite aside from which the point is moot. The information we have seems to indicate that there was no offer for 155 or any other weight from GBP.

CANELO-"I want the Golovkin fight, 155 or a weight we both feel comftorable at."

    Mr.154-168/lil g's response-"160 or no fight , I'm not moving an ounce, not 159 , 158, 157, 156 or 155."

Now, does that sound like a guy(lil g)who wants the big fights, nope!

It's obvious , that Golovcan't once again did not want to make the big fights.

lil g is ducking yet another fighter , it's nothing new, no boxer ever , has turned down as many big fights as Golovcan't.

The fight could of happened already, CANELO was ready Golovcan't once again had excuses , all the blame falls on Golovcan't.

OK brah. You think Canelo wanted the fight and Golovkin didn't. Got it.

I wasn't actually debating that because it was clear what you think. What I was querying was your assertion that 155 made 'perfect sense' and was interested to get your opinion on the broader question of how catchweights should be used.

"Some boxing personalities, like Freddie Roach, scored the first five rounds for Khan."

Well then some boxing personalities don't know how to score a fight because that is ridiculous. Khan didn't expose a damn thing about Alvarez. Even when he had success in the first 3 rounds, what exactly did he show that others had not shown before?

Also, why do folks keep calling Khan the smaller man. He had height and reach advantages and bulked up into the 160s for the fight. Weighing more doesn't necessarily make you bigger.
He barely had the height and reach advantage really did he? and he was the smaller guy because Canelo's frame is just naturally bigger. His neck, legs, arms were all bigger. Khan just gives the illusion he's bigger than he is because he has a wide back, but he doesn't have the mass Canelo had, he looked bloated at the weight.
