When was the last time you seen Rafael at a gym? Not working out but talking to fighters and trainers? You ever seen a football/basketball/hockey/baseball writer that doesn't visit practices?

I do agree however that it should be beneath someone in his position to get in the childish spats he does. He should just ignore people instead of engaging in that nonsense.
I don't think he would get picked on for his weight if wasn't such a d*ck. He's a living, breathing meme. The fat guy sitting on the couch criticizing top conditioned athletes. If he were more straight up and down I don't think people would give him as hard a time as he gets.

And he's not very good at his job. You could do his job. Work for the biggest sports media outlet and you're going to get the contacts and inside scoops. All he does is report them. You never see him in the gyms interviewing fighters and managers unless it's fight week media workout. That's like a beat writer never visiting spring training or preseason camps. The bloggers are the ones in the gyms and behind the scenes. I've seen Dontae Boxing pick up the phone in the middle of a video and call Abel Sanchez and he answered. People say he hates GGG but he's always at big bear. Rafael will throw rocks from the safety of his home and visit the gym during media day. Fighthype (or Floydhype) is constantly bringing good content from the Mayweather camp. Fighthub has some of the best interviews on youtube. If Rafael didn't have the ESPN brand behind him he wouldn't be as popular as he is now.

And Rafael is one of the few national media members dedicated to covering boxing. Iole (Yahoo) Coppinger (USA Today) Chris Mannix (The Vertical) and Pugmire (LA Times) cover other sports as well as boxing. Rafael is strictly boxing.

while he may have a scoop from time to time, I have ZERO respect for him.

The weight is his own problem but it does not do any good for the sport.

My biggest issue with him is his lack of respect towards boxing fans and anyone who disagrees with him.

His completely screwed up job "reporting" on the wilder/povetkin fight is just one of his latest fiascos.

In the Russian media, they asked Ryabinski about it... and he responded how credible can a reporter be, reporting on something that he never bothered to confirm? Ryabinski said he was always available to talk about it.

Beyond that, his outbursts at fans on twitter, pathetic.

Unfortunately, he is the face of boxing for a lot of people.

Plenty of youtubers who are much more talented and dedicated to Boxing who would do a better job for ESPN for a fraction of the price... heck, I am sure they would do it for free.

I doubt Fat Dan gives a **** tbh. He'll have been called a lot worse things on Twitter.

Anyway, he has the best job in the world, getting paid big monies to "report" about boxing and nothing else. He's probably laughing at us moaning about him.
