i can't figure out, for the life of me, what kind of well meaning and just criteria to go to war you need to justify what was done against the state and to civilians in vietnam.


i'm not a vietnam historian [,] and i'd need to do a lot of reading to say this with more confidence, but ali may very well have been doing the right thing. a lot of people died, and very little was accomplished, what what i can tell, in vietnam.

Ali was right to take a stance! Why would a Black who is treated worse than a second class citizen jump at fighting a WAR that was WRONG to begin with for a country that treats them like SHT on the back of their shoe!!!!! This was NOT World War 2, this was a WRONG WAR that even the architects of that war admitted was WRONG on a number of levels!!! If fighter jets were headed from another country to the USA to attack us back in the day, you can damn well be certain Ali would have been at the front line ready to fight a JUSTIFIED war yelling "Lemme at em!".

People degrade by saying he wasn't a hero and point to the war but Ali was MORE than just a hero. One of his greatest achievements was how COUNTLESS repressed young blacks in the 60's and 70's had a superhero that made them realize they were important, they were equal to all men, they meant something to the world. That they had something to look forward to if they could possibly do what Ali did, or simply live vicariously through him. He was their hope, sometimes their only hope, their only escape, from reality, from the desolate poverty they were in. Ali was their superstar and everyone's superstar. That is a HERO!!!!
