that's the firs thing i thought when i saw it. you're fine to think that way. i thought, "wow, one of the greatest boxers of all time just died, and floyd still managed to make it about himself in 2 sentences.
You guys are truly ignorant. He basically gave another man credit for his own success and he was right to do so. Many entertainers, athletes, professionals have given credit to those who came before them for their own success. For an example Will Smith once gave credit to Sidney Poitier for his own success.

But because you guys are so blinded by your hatred and jealousy of the man, you can't see what he was doing.

What a lot of these posters and modern boxing fans don't understand is that Ali said a lot more outrageous and offensive things than Floyd has but he was largely given a pass for it because he was charismatic and the world was a lot less politically correct back then. All Floyd tried to do was give some perspective and nuance to Ali's career and was villafied for it.

Ali was a great fighter, no doubt, but his accomplishments and impact outside of the ring are being vastly overstated. Elevating men to god like statuses or demonizing them into movie like villains has always been to weird to me.

I guess rational people should hate on Ali for all the ****y remarks he made about Frazier too, and all his racist rants?

Nearly every crappy thing Mayweather has done, Ali also did. Damn Mayweather used his blueprint. Same people that love Ali for it, hate Mayweather for it. Makes no sense to me.

        • Fawking pathetic! Floyd says one thing and this bs forum goes crazy for 15 pages! The hate is real and it's sad. Ali passing thread has 6 pages of bs RIP champs but this one has twice as many
          Unbelievable

He spoke up against a lot of the issues affecting black people at the time. Black people were still getting lynched, forced to use separate facilities, and suffering from police brutality. He said things that were unpopular with whites and some black people and he made no apologies for it. That's one of the reasons he so respected today. To call him a racist for speaking up is a stretch.

this is absolutely ridiculous. i went to see floyd fight canelo in 2013. cost me a pretty good amount of money. i wasn't there to see canelo

floyd managed to make the passing of one of the 5 best boxers ever, and without a doubt the most popular boxer ever, about him.

              • I knew as soon as Floyd said anything people would attack him.

And if he kept quiet and didn't say anything people would attack him for that as well.

Floyd is in a lose-lose situation in most things he does now.

Did Ali go to jail for wife beating too? Did he release a racist video?

                  I must have missed that.

                  • Really don't see why some people are finding something negative about what Floyd said about this? What is wrong with essentially saying 'if it wasn't for him it would have been different for me'? Paying respect to someone that came before him and acknowledging the impact he had on him isn't a bad thing.

                    • It seems like anything Floyd says or does can be spinned into a negative in some way.

Oscar Dela Hoya reacts to passing of Muhammad Ali: '.....he paved the way for professional fighters including myself......' 3 comments and none negative towards Oscar.

Floyd Mayweather reacts to Muhammad Ali's passing (before the Oscar article): '......he's one of the guys who paved the way to be where i'm at today....' 146 comments with many saying Floyd is just being selfish wtf

This is a sad day to remember a global icon, not have a go at fighters who pay respect.
