Before they ****ed around until they're a month out...now it makes me think something else has been at play all along.

Very likely that is AIBA's ultimate goal, to become the centralized governing body for all of boxing worldwide. Amateur or pro.

On one hand it's hilarious to see greedy and corrupt men like Sulaiman panicking because their power is being threatened. They left the door open to this by mismanaging the sport.

But on the other hand AIBA seems to be just as greedy and corrupt. Another FIFA. It would be nice to have only one organization in charge of boxing but we probably don't want it to be them.

Good article, agree with a lot of it. Timing of this decision is awful, if i was paranoid i'd say it was su****ious.

I am in favour of bringing amateur and pro boxing closer together regarding technique, and this will help. It was a step in the right direction changing the scoring to align with pro's. This will help the transition from amateur to pro easier and hopefully a few more people can get paid instead of busting their arse for free.
Initially there will be teething problems, but eventually it will reach equilibrium and the styles wont be completely different.

Regarding pros beating up am's.. Standing 8 count, plus 3 knockdown rule should prevent them from taking too much punishment. Loma and Rigs prob beat any pro over 5 rounds back in the day anyway..

Also imagine if wbc was the sole pro orginisation, and they banned people from competing!? This might be one of few times it's a benefit having more than 1 alphabet organisation.

How is Sulamain corrupt?? Any facts to back up that claim?

Finally an article about the bigger picture here. I've been arguing for months that we aren't going to see many high profile boxers if any at all in the Olympics for reasons mentioned here. The AIBA knows that and the billionaire who runs the show has been making moves and comments for years about creating a central boxing organization. That could be a very good thing or a bad thing depending on how you see things. After end of the day, we are in an era where ducking is the norm so I'm all for a central body that can actually enforce rules and regulations. This will take a lot of time though.

I don't understand argument on timing could you explain?

He makes some good points in the article but i don't agree with them worrying about pay. It would be just like hard sparring for these top guys. I can imagine a lot of guys coming out of the Olympics and having a pro fight not too long after.

No problem with a central, singular governing body controlling boxing.

Definitely a problem with 5 round, pillow gloved, team based boxing where you get a standing 8 count for taking a few flush punches in a row.

TBH there isnt 'that' much that I would want changing in boxing, decent ranking system, enforcing of rules (mandatories/eliminators especially) and a few other little bits. The sport doesnt need a top to bottom re-imagining. It needs organisation and structure.

Ultimately I dont think AIBA will get much out of this venture. WSB doesnt get much in terms of viewers unless they have someone like Lomachenko fighting, and guys like that inevitably turn full pro because they know they can make much more money.
