Dude, when you can drop and gain 20 lbs in 1 day, you do NOT have terrible work ethic. Canelo has mastered the art of cutting weight and works hard at it. As a matter of fact, he's one of the best ever at cutting weight.

I'm not sure why you think he has a terrible work ethic.. are you combining Chavez Jr with Canelo? Are we talking about Chavelo?

He is pushing his body to the very limit to make 155. The reason he blows up so much on fight night is because he is too damn big for even junior middleweight.

The idea that he could work harder and make 147 just isn't the least bit true. If he worked any harder to cut any more weight he wouldn't be able to actually get in the ring and fight.
I know he cant make 147 now but he couldve a couple years back, my point was with a better work ethic he should be comfortably making 154 right now. Look at a guy like ggg, i dont like him but he has a great work ethic, trains like a beast, & stays close to his natural weight. GGG trains in Big Bear and Canelo trains in San Diego, that says a lot.

If that were the case Erik Morales would be the greatest of all time at cutting weight & Rios would be undisputed champ at weight cutting. BHop, Floyd, Manny, Marquez, even GGG walk around close to their fighting weight and are not cutting 20+lbs because they have a great work ethic.

Are you saying Canelo gets fat between camps? He looks like he's just a rather short, stocky kid to me. Not everyone who carries a lot of weight is tall. He said himself that he can't make 150, when Mayweather first proposed that CW.

I disagree. You're talking about Rios, who's notorious for being overweight, then cutting lots of weight and showing up the fight unhealthy. His weight distribution goes:
Extremely Heavy->Cut to Weight->Heavy and Unhealthy. In numbers, it goes 180->147->160:
Rios' heaviest rehydration weight is recorded as 163. I think we can all agree that Rios definitely looks unhealthy during the fight. He was walking around "170-180" in 2012.. so let's say he's at 180 now.

Canelo's different. His weight distribution goes:
Heavy->Cut to Weight->Heavy, in numbers we can estimate it's 180->155->175
According to a 2014 interview, his walk around weight was 170.. let's say it's 180 now. Rehydration I think we can all agree on 174-176 being his range.
And I don't think there's a shadow of a doubt that he looks ok fighting. He went 12 rounds with Cotto and did not gas.

You have a theory that Canelo's in poor shape and has bad ethic. I have not seen any proof of that theory.

I think he's a short Middleweight. He probably should be at 160 already but he doesn't fight in a traditional come-forward style like many of his Mexican compatriots. GGG aside I think his team might see more than they want to chew on with a lot of the 6 foot + fighters at 160. Canelo without any reach advantage seems to make for tough nights for him. Think Trout and Lara type fighters except taller, longer and stronger.

I'm not sure Canelo's favored style would work well at Middleweight... but I think he is physically a Middleweight. It's a tough spot for him, but he's been in this oddball size-limbo for a long time. He's oversized for 147 opponents, probably undersized for 160- and yet somehow Canelo apparently can't even make the Junior Middleweight limit of 154.

TLDR; He isn't a welterweight at all (at least in 2016).

The Mayweathers also said the same thing before they fought him.
