Is Canelo just a blown up Welterweight?

He is a full middleweight hiding at 155. The reason he doesn't match up well at middleweight isn't because of his weight, it's because he is a counter puncher. If he were a boxer puncher, with a good jab, and decent cutting of the ring skills he would have no problem at middleweight. It's about styles not weight.Comment

it helped he avoided drug testing between his loss to Morales at 130 and before he fought mayweather at 147Canelo has cement feet
being too short + having cement feet means all the big, safety first, mobile MW outboxers will have a field day with him.
Unless he can make a career of fighting MW come forward brawlers, Canelo's chances at MW dont look to bright
do you think Pacquiao could have climbed up 8 weight classes if he didn't have lightning fast footwork to compensate for his midgetness?
Manny's footwork is overrated...he benefitted from fighing come forward types himself and he struggles cutting off the ring, which is why he faced Morales instead of Zahir Raheem, never beat JMM clearly with four tries. He couldnt track down a old as Methuselah Mosley as well.
In all fairness....his move up the weights was very impressive but once it hit 147 and so called 154(150 title fight with margo in a divison neither were ranked) it became him fighting guys at catchweights, coming off tko losses in recent fights, and no impressive showings prior to him fighting him.Comment

lol, ok you got me on the height cobra but I really meant if the guy trained harder and didnt blow up so big between camps, hed be able to make a smaller weight. Canelo wouldve been a terror at WW and a really good Jr. MW at this point of his career. Now he bit off more than he can chew. Theres a reason why Canelo comes in bigger than GGG does come fight at when he weighs in at 155 and the difference is GGG trains and fights consistently, had Canelo had the same mindset, hed be fighting at Jr. MW right now without a problem.Comment

No I agree at this point but imagine a few years back (pre baldomir) if he wouldve stayed dedicated to making 147, he wouldve been a monster at that weight. Just these last (1.5-2 years) of his career should he have been a 154lber. MW shouldn't have even been an option right now...Comment

lol @ blown up welterweight!
You can make an argument he's a blown up junior middleweight, definitely not welterweight.
I will say this though - if Golovkin didn't exist, Canelo would be a full fledged 160 pounder. He's cutting a lot of weight to squeeze down to 155 and perhaps that's why he has some stamina issues. He would almost certainly be more comfortable at middleweight. The problem is if he's talented enough to hold his own against other talented middleweights. I think he would personally against most everyone not named Golovkin and even then I think he'd put up an excellent fight against GGG in a gutsy losing performance.Comment

He is 5 foot 9 inches tall and a big rock hard 154 pounder who makes 155 easier than 154. He trains hard and doesn't have an ounce of extra weight. He en ters the ring as hard as a rock, all bone and muscle. It would be impossible for him to make 147 and be strong at all.Comment

I don't think he could make Welter. He's built like a **** brickhouse. Broner shoulders are huge, you'd think he should be fighting SWW, but his legs are kinda skinny. Canelo is thick from top to bottom (no ****)lol, ok you got me on the height cobra but I really meant if the guy trained harder and didnt blow up so big between camps, hed be able to make a smaller weight.
