Because Main Event seems more than happy to **** their own fighter out of money; 25% of the payout to defend his two belts against Hopkins, ~50% of the pot to the WBC mandatory contender, to travel to said contender's hometown and venue, ~50% of the pot to go back to the same fighter's hometown, after knocking them out, to give a rematch, etc.

Stevenson is 37 year old, GYM has the lock on on of boxing's best markets, and Stevenson is the outright holder of the lineal championship at 175lbs. He's is position to negotiate, and his camp takes advantage of that position, unlike Main Events.

You think Ward is gonna become the new Mayweather, De La Hoya or Manny or on the road to being them if he beats Kovalev? He beat a murderers row of 168lbers + Chad Dawson (who had a very solid rep at the time) & its not made him some huge star yet really. I don't think its in the cards for him. He's just not fun to watch. He's a young Bhop. He's highly skilled, but no one is gonna rush to see him fight.

Aquacknis has really faced a murderers row since he ducked Kovalev.

I think that, barring any new injury, Andre Ward has the chance to be akin to "Sugar" Ray Leonard; he's seemingly back to fighting 3 times a year, he's based out of the 6th biggest media market in the country (SF-Oakland-San Jose; Bay Area), has kept a 9k-10k fan audience, even with the layoff, fights out of a 21k-seat arena, has Roc Nation's backing to help make him a player in NYC, and MGM Resorts is still looking for another bankable commodity for Las Vegas (say what you want about Floyd's style, MGM Resorts kept their backing of him because Floyd was't likely to lose against any fighter on Earth unless he stuck around and simply got old; imagine the type of money the sportsbook cleared up from all of the bets placed against Floyd).

You add that Ward is an easy-smiling, good interview, Olympic gold medalist, who can operate in urban mainstrean audiences, with no seeming skeletons in his closet, and I don't see why not.

The most marketable fights end up in Vegas (vs Kovalev, Stevenson, Beterbiev), but otherwise you have Andre Ward rotating between fighting at Oracle Arena and Barclays Center.

                  Oh he's still up there...

Besides Kovalev, Beterbiev and maybe Stevenson, he can still have a shot at any of the top ten, including Ward ( of course not winning but he would be better lookin then against Kovalev for sure)...
