What is wrong with some of these people writing in questions? I'm worried the PPV buys won't be there for Kovalev-Ward, maybe we should wait awhile. WTF. Are you their promoters? I thought we were boxing fans. This is the best fight in the sport, we just saw last year what happens when you wait too long, both are already in their 30s, but you want to wait because you don't think enough casual fans know about the fight?
I almost wonder if the people writing in aren't family members of the fighters, or maybe just fans of certain fighters who are afraid they'll lose. Saying you want them to wait until Ward becomes the "undisputed people's champion" at light heavyweight before they make the fight sounds a lot like you want them to wait until Kovalev gets old. How long is it supposed to take for Ward, who fights twice a year at best and gets injured a lot, becomes the people's champion?
Just a very su****ious email.
Same thing with the Crawford fight. He has been feasting on no names ever since the Gamboa fight. It's not like Postol is GGG. Postol is a good fighter who was fighting maybe even with Matthysse until Matthysse got his Achilles eye cracked again. It's a great step up fight for Crawford and it's coming two fights later than ideal if you ask me.
So again, is this a Postol fan in secret trying to come up with excuses why the fight shouldn't have happened? I can't imagine it's a Crawford fan because I think Crawford will win...
The people who wrote in those two questions are the reason boxing sucks right now. You don't have enough fans demanding the best fights because now many "fans" would rather be promoters and only care about protecting their own fighters, or making sure their fighters get huge purses. You're supposed to be boxing fans! Let the promoters and fighters worry about their purses. You worry about pushing for them to make the best fights NOW. And guess what, the more fans actually want to see the best fights now, and push for the best fights now, the more hype and interest will be around those fights NOW, and the bigger the purses will be for the fighters because more casuals will hear the hype.
So instead of being cool with delaying the big fights to supposedly help the fighters and promoters, instead why don't you talk about them on twitter every day, demand they happen every day, and that will create more interest. Fans will get to see the fights sooner, and fighters will get bigger purses for the fights sooner. A win for everyone. But being cool with them delaying the fights? That's bull****. Especially Kovalev-Ward. That fight is perfect now, Ward has already had two fights since coming back from injury which is plenty and may get a 3rd. Both are in their primes. If you wait any longer, Ward may get injured again. Both fighters are healthy and fighting well now. Do not tempt fate again like Mayweather-Pacquiao, make the damn fight.
And there are story lines. The story line is #1 vs #2, puncher vs boxer, active guy fans love who fights everyone vs guy who hasn't fought anyone good in awhile. Many fans still think Ward will duck so you have that as a story line too.
And of course the biggest story line to most American boxing fans, since most American boxing fans are black, is that they consider Ward black, and Kovalev is not black, so that's all the motivation they need to tune in and pray for Ward to win.
