Canelo can pretty much thank a shot Cotto for all his fighting credibility.
I think he is talented but he needs to start making the big fights in either 154 or 160.

Your the one re writing history. Canelo refused to fight on the Floyd/Guerrero card unless he had a guarantee that Floyd would fight him next. Floyd refused so Canelo decided to do his own show in April of 2013 in the Alamadome.
Everyone said he would take an easy opponent and no way he would fight Trout coming off his win against Cotto the previous December. There were multiple threads saying he would fight another smaller guy and Trout was too dangerous because if he lost he would lose his shot at Mayweather. Even after the fight was made Oscar admitted he told Canelo not to take the fight as he would be risking a lot of money if he lost All he wanted to do was prove Canelo could be a draw without Mayweather.
His own promoter told him not to take the fight and a bunch of people on here were saying he was not ready for Trout. The narrative was that Canelo would only fight people smaller to him coming off the Lopez fight. Turns out that was mostly Golden Boy wanting to bring him a lot slowly. People here were very surprised he would make that fight as he had a lot to lose if he didn't win. Both guys came into the fight undefeated.

First of all it was people saying Floyd would duck Canelo not the other way around. Fighting Trout ya there was some saying he wouldn't, but can you blame them? before Trout he fought all bums or over the hill fighters not even in his weight class. He did what he was suppose to do a fight a good fighter in his weight class. Lara is the only fight to give credit to Canelo for taking.

I agree, people can say what they want about Canelo but he's always been a prideful fighter who took on the best. I think it's a matter of when he will fight Golovkin, not if. He should take that fight sooner than later.

There's some revisionist history itt. Everyone was calling for Canelo to fight "the best in the division" and at the time that was Trout after he beat Cotto.

No one said he wouldn't fight Mayweather and I don't remember hearing too much about Trout but you are correct about Lara and good for him. He has a solid resume and some good wins.

But he will not fight GGG unless GGG gets beaten, injured, old or there is no other avenue left.
