So he KOd Khan...that was a bad fight but other than that he's been solid. Who are all these old small fighters he's bringing up? Outside of Khan? I'd much rather see Khan vs Ginger than Floyd vs Berto or Pac vs Algieri..or GGG vs Ishida.. At least I care about both fighters (Khan and Canelo and despite the hate we give Khan, he's usually a solid guy to watch fight and generally entertaining).

I don't fully disagree with tc though. It's tough for a fan but the mma argument is hilarious. If Dana doesn't like you you'll be waiting on the wings a while... Remember Jon fitch? Even mma is a popularity contest but they have the advantage of being a league that's borderline monopolizing the sport... Go figure though... Mma fighters, many of them are really unhappy with their pay and way they're treated and wish they had it like in boxing.

The ufc is basically like..if Al Haymon ONLY matched up his fighters against each other...oh....wait...

There's no inbetween... Either the business side prevails and takes advantage of the fighters (ufc) or the fighters get their "just due" and make business decisions for themselves but we as fans can be left out in the loop for a few months because guys in boxing can't walk around with 12-9 records and generally be successful. In most cases, in boxing..dudes have spent years and years in the amateurs, years in the pros slowly building a name and 20-30 fighters later they're finally making money... You can be good in MMA for like a year or two and you're ontop of the world... or be famous and get a hw title shot (Lesnar).

Think CM punk would appear on a major boxing card? Lol

Both sides have their huge cons.

There will never be an ideal scenario.

People forget the kind of s hit promoters used to get away with in boxing (and still do) and how everything wasnt always so easy.

And who doesnt know a single guy irl that likes boxing? Where the hell do you live? North Dakota where it's just a bunch of drunk white guy mma fans?

Mma is fun..I love it..but boxing transcends..it's a culture for many and the history/prestige in some countries for being a former/current world champ is amazing.

Mma is popular in america because lets face it... White guys do better in mma than boxing. Think people would care if it was just a bunch of black dudes, bea ners, and brazilians with zero good white fighters?

The talent level in boxing is higher than in MMA (for now) as it's just been around longer..has history in other countries where it's not just "cool" to box but it often comes from necessity and it's an extremely honorable profession in terms of public perception.

We've all seen it... The newbie "mma guy" who trains at an mma gym, wears his tapout gear...thinks he can wrestle and choke out the world..no one takes that seriously unfortunately. The history isnt there.

Now go to Mexico..the Phillipines, Japan, the UK, Russia, etc etc and say you're a boxer? Waaaaaay different attitude. Say you're an mma fighter in mexico and they just go "You arent that good at boxing?" I've seen it..hell I see it in the west coast here in the states. Black and mexicans just kind of see MMA in that kind of light where if you couldnt make it in boxing. Its an unfair stigma

My viewpoint is different in that I grew up in a big boxing family so there's clear bias...just a disclaimer lol.

I follow mma very closely though and as a fellow "student" I guess you could say of combat, I respect them as much as boxers. But the talent just isn't there yet..there are a few guys but the rest are far behind the Jon Jones, GSPs, Demetrius Johnson's, etc. if you've got the temperament, MMA right now is MUCH more accessible than boxing if you've got a bit of talent..you can take a pretty short road to the majors..not so in boxing. Just my opinion
This post needs to be stickied to every MMA vs Boxing thread.

100% on point. Thank you for this.

If you look at other promoters like TR, Goosen days, Shaw, etc. they found a way to get good fights made. Even Don King wasn't THIS bad.
Kelly Pavlik's purse against Gary Lockett (in 2008): 2.5 Million.

Yeah, it's all on Al Haymon's fault.

Yeah well you would to if your last purse was 20k like most mma fighters. UFC underpays their guys for this very reason, get paid 20k to fight a top 10 guy than when you get offered 100k to fight anyone you jump on it.
